Question 328i xdrive rough acceleration

Hi everyone first time posting here..

I just bought an automatic 2011 328i x drive with 180k kms. I've noticed that i have a rough acceleration from about 1800-2200rpm. Its a very slight rumble and starts to cut power, but it only happens after about 15 minutes of driving the car, so when its fully warmed up.

This only happens when I slowly roll onto the throttle. When I'm cruising or if I'm over 1/2 throttle I don't notice it at all. I'm planning on replacing the spark plugs and ignition coils, but I'm wondering if i should replace anything else?

I'm also worried it could be the trans/AWD system slipping, would this be possible or would that be more noticeable?

There is also no codes shown for any issues so i think its something minor, I just wanna check in here to ask if it sounds like anything else that could be obvious.

Thank you in advance

Hey,

Also first time posting here but I have started tackling the same issue, same year too. I had a few diagnostic ideas in mind but my wheel bearing decided now was the time to die (so i haven't tested these myself).

First is to unplug the AWD pigtail and see if the problem persists. This disables the AWD clutch system and use rear only. If it doesn't continue it's probably the AWD system. If it does, it may be the torque converter that's messing up. I'm sure others smarter than me may chime in as well. I need more ideas if that doesn't work!

I will also say, be warned, taking out (and putting back in) the bolt (and the support bracket) for the AWD transfer case support bracket is a PITA. i had to add a little bit of lube to the rubber to help it slide back into place.

Hi thanks for the reply I really appreciate that info. I'm honesty terrified its the awd system so I'm glad ill be able to rule that out sooner or later. Ill definitely be giving this a go this weekend to see if there's a different result.

I've also changed the spark plugs, ignition coils and air filter since and it doesn't seem to have helped much.

Look up torque converter shudder. From your description it could be the problem. If so a transmission fluid and filter change with a tube of shudder fix may take care of it.
