Am i wise?
Ok, i know i'll probably get a biased answer anyway, this after all is a BMW forum
Im looking to change my current car for an E92. My current car has treated me well, and anything that has needed repaired on it has been been relatively inexpensive, compared to my previous E90, which needed a £300 traction control module, £600 reconditioned turbo. Also i didnt realise until after i sold it, it was showing early signs of a failing steering column which costs in the region of £1500-2000 to replace. You'd think that i would be wise not to go back to BMW as ive been bitten before with high repair costs although some could argue that my E90 was a lemon and i'll give the brand the benefit of the doubt. I just have such a love for the brand, i've always admired their cars and as you can imagine it came as a great disappointment to me that i had problems with mine. The E9X seems like the perfect all rounder car, stylish, fast, fun, safe. So what do you guys reckon? |

We're going to need a car to compare it with..... If your car is a Saab and you're comparing it with a bimmer, idk. I'm not familiar with Saabs. But BMWs are the best all-around car for the price.
Edit: Read it incorrectly, that's what you're doing. I figure there's a reason why Saab went out of business.. Plus in the future they would be expensive to work on. Last edited by GChase; 01-10-2013 at 09:58 AM.. |

I can't comment directly to the question on your title, but is there something you can do differently this time around..? Like - did you do a thorough PPI and check the car service and maintenance records before buying? We have Carfax here, not sure if you guys have a similar service. If you can do a better job vetting down the car, maybe you'll have better luck this time around.. Else, find something that you're comfortable will be reliable and repair-free going in.. :dunno:

I think you misunderstood... I didn't say they were unreliable. I just said there's a reason why they went out of business (i.e. price, bad executives, not being able to compete with other brands). I can speak for BMW that it varies from car to car on how reliable they are. My dad's 2000 E46 328i has over 170k miles and he's had cheap maintenence so far. But, my 2009 328i had a series of expensive repairs as soon as I purchased it at 68k miles. But 12k since, I haven't had a problem.
