Right now, the only limitation is that cars produced 2/29/2012 or newer requires the FSC from the dealer.

However, if all you need to do is fix surging issues, you can update your DME with the last OEM software version with no issues.
Is there any other way to obtain the FSC or is it really dealer only?

As long as your car is 02/28/2012 or older, you can have it flashed without BMW involvement.

Does anyone live in Massachusetts and have the PPK flash without dealer involvement? We have a customer whose having inspection issues due to communication with the DME, and the station is telling them their software number doesn't match their VIN. Evidently their system is setup to communicate directly with BMW to determine the expected software number.

Aside from this issue, the PPK was successfully installed and runs as advertised. Also, any/all OBD port readers successfully communicates with the DME.

HOLY SHIT!

No help here but I believe it. MA went batshit crazy last year with the car inspection process.

For example if a Jeep Wrangler is lifted more than 2" or has 2" taller tires, it will fail inspection. Every inspection bay has 5 video cameras that record each inspection and pipe it directly the MA DOT (or whatever the dept. name is). Crazy stuff.

Isn't there around that inspection? Like thru a 3rd party?

Sounds like the system was contracted to a 3rd party but still the same result. Also the system compiles data from other similar cars, so it may get more cumbersome as more people get inspected.

Some articles on it.

Ik it may be troublesome but why not register the vehicle in a nearby state that isn't so strict

Hello, anyone knows where to install nowadays the ppk 1 for a late e92 2012 335i (n55)? I contacted a shop but doesn't offer ppks for late 2012 models.

Thanks!

Edit: I have been told that apparently I'll need to go through a third party vendor which can purchase the fsc certificate from bmw to import into the DME (only vehicles produced 04/2012+ require this).

I'd imagine surely any dealer could get it for you but it will be pricy for the small performance gain. Unless you're looking for the originality of it, there's no reason to go with this over just an MHD flash.

Yes so I have been doing a bit of reading and my only question is if I really (and sadly) necessarily need to spend ~$1000 just to get the fsc (compared to models from before 03/2012 which don't need that) so then I am able to flash the ppk.

If that is the case it seems like a lot more money than what I was planning to spend. All I want is to get rid of the damn lag/surge issues of the dct and still have a reliable daily driver. What other tunes are out there that can do this ? Dinan S2 maybe better than MHD as I have read?

thanks again!

Also just found a PPK v2 kit for 480 Eur in Ebay ( part number: 11 12 2 184 495). I am trying to decide whether to go for it or get just the FSC for 200 Eur instead.

My questions, will the FSC from the PPK v2 be the same to the PPK V1 (part number: 11 12 2 219 489)? Should I just go for the PPK V2 or it is not worth it? Mind my 335i is a daily and I don't track it. ( 500 eur just for the kit so without installation, Idk if I could install it myself or how much would it cost to do it at the mechanic/dealer).

Thanks again!

You are better off buying MHD to get the DME unlocked. You don’t need to bench flash the DME to unlock it anymore. You can do it all from your phone including installing PPK tune from MHD as well. Or you can try stage 1 for some noticeable power increase and use your own custom burble settings.

Oh I didn't know that... So essentially I could do this myself at home and would just need to buy the MHD Flasher License for N55e (+ Wifi adapter) and then upload the custom map from the PPK ? ( I am guessing I can find the ppk bin file on the internet for free?). That would get me the official bmw ppk then? Seems to good to be true after all of the headache with the FSC ...

Cheers!

If all you want is burbles then yes (you can also use the OTS maps). Not sure what else you want unless you want dealership to install it.

I see yeah, so I basically want what the PPK does with the main target being to get rid of the DCT lag but ofc burbles are always appreciated as long as the turbo is not damaged.

This thread https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1837333 and the user TunafishE93 claims what I want is possible if I read correctly?

As before, if not, my other route is to buy the FSC from the PPK v2 and pay someone to install the PPK as done with prior to 03/2012 cars. Post #56 in this thread https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...1331966&page=3 does something similar If I am not mistaken.

Thanks very much again and apologies for the load of questions !

I am not positive but I believe you can download the PPK bin file and flash it with MHD.

I don’t know anything about flashing bins via WinFKP. It’s above my skill level.

Look up xHP transmission tunes. That might fix your DCT lag issues.

A correctly flashed DIY PPK should have no problems passing California/CARB style emissions, where they use checksums to see if the software matches their database.

MEVD1726, as stated, cannot be flashed unless you have an FSC code (not worth it)

I have a question guys, for an N55 E92 335i. If I install the PPK tune via MHD and then install the MHD Stage 1 or Stage 1+ will the burbles/afterfires from PPK remain? I like more that natural sound compared to the pops and bangs from MHD maps
