I am looking for recommendation for an Performance All Season tire for my 335I. I run a 18" stager performance tire for the summer and I run 17" standard winter snow tire of various brands over the years. Where I live we get snow a couple of times a year which requires me to drive in snow, most of the time I am just driving on cold or wet road conditions. Standard snow tires just have been problematic when the road are wet since they car had too much power to not spin the tire.

After this winter my current tires will be toast, I figure I would replace them with All-season tire and I am not sure which ones have good balance of mid weather as well and wet and snow cover roads. Come April my summer tires are on and come Oct my winter tire are on. I just do not like the 3 month of rainy wet roads that the snow tire tend to suck.

Looks like the Continental did the best all around. I just got new tires as well. I bought Michelin AS3+'s which I heard good things about. Though it only snows once every few years around here, so that wasn't a consideration for me.

Thanks, what I find interesting with the testing Tirerack did and what other drivers and my personal experience with Continental was completely different. I agree with Tirerack assessment which is the Continental when first installed are good tires once you get some miles on those tire they seem to degrade fast. This is exactly what happen to me when I put a set of continentals on my BMW, I got about a year or so out of them, they still had tread but became unpredictable in bad weather.

The other thing I notice with them and others review seem to bare this out, on performance cars with lots of power to the wheel the tire do not hold up, with the 335I the traction control light could come on every time you gave it lots of throttle. This got worse as the tire aged.

If I remember correctly this is why I ended up switching to snow only tires since they tended to behave the same year over year.

My final thought on Tirerack reviews, they tend to only focus on when tires are new not how do they do once you put mileage on them.

What tires are you talking about? Telling us they are "Continentals" doesn't help much.

Right, you want perf snows, not gumballs like blizzaks or other tires designed for where snow in on the *ground* for months at a time.

I get more snow then you here up the Lehigh Valley but have the same perf snows on our cars, currently dunlop winter sport 3/4 with a few seasons on them. The only problem is no locking rear diff on the 335d...that can be slightly annoying at times I do find it odd the Dunlop's don't seem to be listed anymore in those sizes (225/40|5/17's), perhaps they got out of the perf snow business.

I used the same type of tires when I was outside PHL for years as well. Nokian WRs were great perf snow tires just harder to find, and i usually tossed them on at thanksgiving and off early april as well.

You can get by with a good A/S tire sure: many folks do but after having driven with snow tires and having the additional confidence and braking abilities I personally would not want to go back to A/S in the fluff.

Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 are known to be very good in the snow for an all season tire. I've used it for several years during the winter in the DC area.

I second the DWS 06 recommendation above. Two of my vehicles (neither one a BMW) have them, and they do well the the mix of snow and rain that we have here in southern OH/northern KY.

I third the dws recommendation from above. Use these on my wife's Acura RDX, and had them on my bimmer years ago. As with all all-season tires, Watch out for when the tread gets low and snow performance goes away, and know that no tire is truly "all season" - there's no substitute for a dedicated winter and summer tire.

I also have the contis on my stock wheels. One note, make sure you air them up to the above 100 mph pressures on the door jam or they will feel a bit floaty.

The Michelin pilot alpin performance snow tires would be another good option. Great for spirited driving in the cold.
