So what broke in your car this year?

Here's what broke in my car this year:

* AC Compressor
* Alternator
* Water pump
* Leaking OFHG

Practically every moving engine accessory has been replaced including the engine belt and assembly.
Also had the intake valves cleaned.

This car has been f*cking expensive to maintain.

I literally could have bought a used car for the amount I spent on maintenance

It is expensive to maintain, but it is very difficult to find another car that will put a smile on my face that doesn't involve car payments.

I will pay to play.

unfortunately it is not one of the most reliable vehicles... It was made at a time when BMW switched to direct injection, and everything electronically controlled by the computer (like electric water pump with variable output ) ... Things break at certain rate as they age.
The good news is that the engine itself and drivetrain seems to be strong, and if you maintain the accessories it goes for a long time.

Did the VCG earlier this year.. then it ate a rod bearing on track a few months later. I think that was operator error though. Otherwise it's been pretty cheap to keep up the last 3 years/30k

The water pump died and the Runflats were replaced with PS4’s, which proves that something good come out of it all.

Maybe. I've owned it since new. Tuned since 1k miles. FBO, E60, 22 psi for at least the last four yrs, multiple 1/2 miles events and trips down the 1/4. Its treated me right so far.

N54 = pay to play

They are pricey to maintain but you get a lot of car for what you can buy them for. Guess that’s the trade off.

This year:
Leaking ofhg
Leaking vcg
Leaking water pump x2
Leaking transmission cooler line

Water pump, OFHG.

On the annoying-but-not-a-big-deal side: power-folding mirror, loss of sport mode (broken wire), seat belt extender

Maybe the 335is slightly different has some minor changes to help with reliability IDK.

I only have 40k on it now. It was a late 2013 build and I only put about 7.5k/yr on it even though it's my DD.

Mine was a 03/13 build so it had whatever the latest revision of various parts at that time but I'm sure many of the common parts to fail (HPFP, injectors, etc) have since been revised at least once. It fell under the air bag recall (fixed) and the FRM, charge pipe, and injector service bulletins but none of that has failed yet. Bonus for me is I can do just about any repair it may need but I'm hoping the turbos go soon so I can get my money back from the extended warranty I purchased after the factory one ran out.

I replaced the OPG, OFHG, and did a walnut blast. The OFHG wasn't making, but i had it apart anyway for the walnut blasting. Nothing i did was urgent or necessary to get done. My car has been fairly reliable after the initial round of preventive maintenance I did when I got the car.

You certainly drive that car hard, but you take damn good care of it.

Seems like a couple of people have had issues with the early 335is. I know the later models were exempt from the driveshaft recall, so there have certainly been changes made.

List for 2018:
Cracked cylinder 6 piston
Cracked valve cover
Coils
HPFP
Flywheel was working but had play in it so replaced it with the M4 DMFW
AFe air scoops punctured AC compressor

From my spread sheet
Some things are omitted...

3/1/18 Swift Spec R, Koni Active shock, Rear upper race mounts
3/23/18 HPFP Mfg Part #13517616446RKT
4/5/18 Bosch Coils, NGK N54plugkt
5/31/18 M3/1M RearUpConArm Mfg Part #33322283547KT4
8/23/18 F80 Dual-mass flywheel Mfg Part #21212283829
9/12/18 Mfg Part #N54PLUGKT
7/11/18 Motor dropped and sent
9/29/18 Motor installed, oil change x 2, new compressor

Haha that's different, hoping them to go out! I bought the car without warranty in mind that I DIY shouldn't be to bad.

But turbos are pretty much my biggest and only fear as that I don't think I'll DIY them and the whole thing isn't super cheap.
