It's funny how you can spot the young guys in this thread: "Sex for money, prostitution, etc".

My wife and I both work, and we have no children.

I haven't modded the BMW yet. All my "car money" has gone into my other cars since I bought the BMW. It's just my stock DD for now.

Everyone has a budget, and everyone has different priorities. Some people want a nice car, other a big house, other a big family. Right now, I am single, working hard, and my car is my hobby. If i had a wife and kids, mortgage, I probably would not be able to afford my car. But right now I don't have any of that, so I have my car

It depends on what your financial situation is,. and what your priorities are...right?

I put about $1000 a month in a separate account for fun stuff(car stuff, vacation, outings, etc.)

I dont have any other expensive hobbies other then my car its just working out, basketball, and videogames for the most part. I also avoid eating out on weekdays as much as possible(you will be surprised how much this will save)

I work in the IT field which pays its employees relatively well.

My wife and I are fortunate enough to be in the top 5% (barely), and we're pretty good with our money (with the exception of that whole buying-a-house-in-2004 thing ). We keep our cars a long time, and up until I got the d, mods were relatively minimal (compared to some members, they still are ) I had my E46 for 13 years, and its only mod for mods sake was a Dynavin. I upgraded the suspension, brakes, and cooling systems when they needed to be replaced, but that's about it. Wife's 2007 RX350 has only gotten an XM tuner and hitch. In the first 6 months or so, the D has gotten tint, winter tires, summer wheels/tires, a JBD and an iPad Mini, with an amp and speakers forthcoming and possibly a few other things.

While we could technically afford relatively expensive cars if we really wanted to, we try to keep those expenses down by getting just enough to keep us happy, and by buying "almost new". Both the RX and the 335d were Demos, with around 10k miles, never titled, and huge discounts off list. That frees up lots of extra money for things like fancy vacations, some nice meals on occasion, and lots of saving for retirement. Oh yeah, and some mods now It also means when my wife's job is offshored later this year, we won't be crushed by the sudden loss of 55% of our income.

I don't pay for mods, and here's why. I think it's throwing good money after bad - essentially you're paying big $$$ on your car that you'll probably end up selling in a few years.

I actually "mod" my home instead

I'm 34 and married. I own my home and the mortgage is paid off in 13 years. My wife makes a good living and so do I. We decided to not have kids so that helps allot. I get $500.00 per month car expense from my job. I have no credit card debt and I try not to pay interest on anything except my mortgage. Some rich kids I grew up with were given everything and went to college and now work hard like the rest of us. Some are still living off the golden tit of the family and they have nice houses, cars, wives, children, friends, and are completely fulfilled. I work 20 hours a week and make 80,000 a year. I have Doctor friends who make $400,000 a year but work 60-80 hours a week. I wouldn't trade careers for anything. Are you satisfied? Rested? Have love and family? Life is progressive, incurable, and fatal to us all. Enjoy it now.

Sounds like you've got it figured out, congrats! With a family, 20h/w:80k sounds better than 80:400 to me too.

I work out of my office, yet I'm a full-time employee. My company offers great benefits that are free to me, such as life and health insurance for my whole family (and I need life insurance, as I fly a lot and travel a lot...In case a plane decides to have HPFP issue one day ).

Yet, with a 328i, I can't think of anything I want to mod, other than maybe new rims in the future, tint, MAYBE a CARB legal CAI. That's about it. I have a family, so the fun money ends up going to the kids' future college fund most fo the time.
