Deleted D + Registration in MD

Hi all, I'm moving from lawless FL to MD and I am aware that they have emissions checks there. From what I've read, it seems that diesel fueled cars are exempt. If anyone on this forum has registered a deleted diesel vehicle in MD from another state (if you buy in state from a dealer it's a different process), I'd appreciate some guidance as to how everything works and a confirmation that there won't be an emissions check. Thanks!

Also does anyone know the safety check process in MD? When I moved to HI several years ago it was a pain in the ass and I ended up having to get my tint removed and then reapplied. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I live in MD and have my 335D registered here. I don't think you'll have any issues with emissions though. I registered mine in December of 2015 and haven't received any notice for an emissions inspection (gas powered vehicles are required to do emissions inspection every two years, FYI).

With regards to the state inspection to get MD tags, you'll have to have the tint removed and then reapplied after the inspection (unless you can find a shop to look the other way with regards to the tint). I highly doubt the inspection station will give you issues with any deletes you may have done.

Let me know if you have any other questions regarding the move and registration process. What part of MD are you moving to?

Thanks a lot for the response, moving to Baltimore at the end of August, Fells Point. Good to know the D will be safe.

Is the state inspection a one time thing? So I just pass it once and then I can put the tint back on and go on my merry way for the rest of my days in MD?

Thanks again for the help, I tried to find all this info online but getting the exact specifics I needed was turning out to be a pain.

Yes, state inspection is a one time thing to get the car registered in MD. I'm with you though, getting the tint pulled for an inspection and then reapplied is a pain I've had to do the same with mine when I bought it 3 or do years ago.

As great as the Internet is, sometimes it's still a a bit of a pain to get the exact info we need. Good thing we have forums to get first hand answers!

Yes, one-time State safety inspection, performed at a myriad of independent shops -- should not be an issue provided things under the hood look reasonably stock.

Welcome to the area. I just got a d myself and did the abcs over the last month...I live in southern md and do not have to do emissions testing. Hope you can get it inspected without taking off the tint. Been there, done that.

I've lived in Maryland for quite a few years. If you dont get an emission test letter in the mail and it's been two years since your last one, they'll automatically suspend your registration, until you'll get randomly pulled over by a cop running random licence plates. And you'll have to go to court if you want the $140 ticket dropped, but still pay $32 court fees + your time. Granted you had passed the emissions test.
I wouldn't do the abc delete anywhere near DC Metropolitan area. Montgomery county, Frederick county, Prince George county, actually all of the DC Metro is part of one system.
That's why I got the 335d in Florida, wouldn't make sense otherwise. Too much hassle. And not too many people would fuck with the regulations, unless you know the right people. Maybe Baltimore. Kinda like Miami here.
Anyway good luck man! And enjoy the D.

Nope.

Maryland has a one-time safety inspection and diesel vehicles are exempt from emissions testing at this time.

DC = same.

you could call a inspection shop, but don't make the question overly complicated. just ask what type of inspection diesels require and tell they you are buying an out of state diesel and figure out what they require for a registration inspection.

It amazes me that this shitty state is so eager to regulate everything else, but let's diesels slide on emissions. Sorry you have to move here and good luck with your inspection, though I suspect you'll be fine. I work in Harbor East, btw
