Are iDrive screens plug and play?
Say I were to swap my current screen for another one, would it be plug and play or would there be coding needed to get it working?

No coding needed. Be careful though. To be on the safe side, do the swap when the radio is off. i.e (Take the key out of the slot of ignition).

I've found one I'm thinking of buying on eBay. It's 2009 (my car is 2012), so would it still work fine? It looks like a CIC to me, judging by the rear, however it seems to have the plastic cover on the front, which I thought only came with the CCC versions? I'd be glad to have the cover, though. (Why did they ever stop doing them?)
