This part worked perfectly and seems to be running well.

Just did the Active Autowerke flash today after having PSUMSU do the swap for me (thanks again!) and I can confirm that everything is running well with the single breather hose listed above.
Only complaint about the conversion is....that I didn't do it earlier!

How does the DISA 2 mount on the manifold?

I am getting ready to do this upgrade and am mounting my new DISA valves on the used 3 stage manifold I bought when I ran into a problem. I see the larger DISA valve screws to the manifold with 4 screws, but the smaller valve, the one closest to the engine, I cannot figure out how that mounts to the manifold? There are no screw holes in the manifold, only some slider type grooves. Is there a slide on/clip on bracket that I must buy to mount it? Hopefully the picture I attached will show what I mean.

there are two plastic clips circled in red. There should be a third one behind the oil breather fitting(arrow).

the second pic shows an installation with a single breather type manifold.

Thanks!

Thanks, that helped. I was looking for it to screw down from the top, not have really long screws come from the other side of the manifold.

Next issue: The picture you posted with the "Single breather" type made me think about the fact that I have a dual breather type. I looked at my factory single stage manifold and it only has one spot for a tube in that area. What do I do with the other tube on the 3 stage manifold?

I someone, for some reason wants to plug the breather system due to leakages from the pcv valve (residing inside the valve cover) and/or the breather hoses, how would one proceed?

i reckon the n52 engine has a very sensitive balance in its different vaccum values around the valve cover, the inlet manifold and the oil return (after the separator)

Anyone that has managed to "bypass"/delete the oil separator or similar, to get rid of these vaccuum issues that are (sooner or later) going to plague our n52:s . Very thankful for any tip.

I don't think you're going to want to plug it. You need a way to vent crankcase pressures, unless you want to blow oil out of every seal on the engine.

that said, with my N52 build I will need something other than the stock oil separator system since I won't have the intake manifold to plumb it up to. I'm thinking some sort of catch can system, but I'll have to think about it some more.

if you have the shitty plastic cover (seriously guys, it's crap - it warps, cracks, and the oil separator fails often), is it possible to switch to the magnesium cover and external separator? at least that one can be rebuilt..

Well I just finished this conversion on my 2006 325i and it runs great when driving and has excellent power. The only problem is the idle is "hunting" a bit. At idle it surges between 500 and 900 rpm. It will hold steady for a second or two, then slowly drop to about 500rpm over the course of a second or two, then the throttle will blip it up to around 900-1000rom and the process repeats.

Any thoughts on what I did wrong?

you probably have a vacuum leak.

Like hass said it could be a vacuum leak. Re check everything- mainly breather hoses. Listen to any hissing noises.

Did you apply the tune to your car? If yes, idle will take few hundred miles to settle

Does anyone know how to get the crankcase return hose to release from the engine?

I broke it while removing the manifold as well as broke my crankcase vent hose, but I'm having trouble removing the return hose from the engine so I can replace it. I can't figure out how to get this connector to let go.

It's number 4 in this oil separator vent diagram. Thanks.

This doesn't work on the N52B25 (323i in CA) does it? I think that is a two stage.

You have squeeze and pull.

Practice on another similar coupling. I think the vacuum hose for brakes has the same connector - it's close to your oil filter.

Well, turns out the oil seperator has a busted diaphram. So after the part comes, I will have to take it all apart again to replace the black ball. Any thoughts on new gaskets? I will have around 100 miles on the car since putting the manifold on. Would the gaskets be o.k. to be reused? The stretch bolts for the intake will be replaced since they are only $10 for all.

the manifold gaskets should be fine to re-use.
