How to test adaptive headlight sensor?

Is there a way to test if the drives side adaptive headlight sensor is functioning properly? I'm not getting any errors on my dash but the headlights don't go through the auto leveling process when turned on. I think I could have broke it the other day when I changed my struts out. I didn't know to disconnect it and I could have possible over extended it and broke it. It seems to be a pretty cheap part at 85, but I don't want to order it if I don't need it.

Are your headlights set to auto or on? I believe adaptive headlights don't work in the 'ON' position.

It's the auto position where they should adapt.

You probably don't want to do this, but the dealer can check functionality of the adaptive feature. That's how they found a problem with my X5

to test your adaptive headlights...park in front of your closed garaged door or have some one watch the headlights as you move the steering wheel to the right back and forth. Hope this helps
