Hell, I'm considering a jump to another car manufacturer, too. BMW doesn't make anything I want, these days. Even their previous models are not enticing me. I may be going MB or Cadillac, soon. Unless I build what I really want...

Only other mfr I'd consider is a Porsche .......Cayman, but I need back seats & 911's are too rich for my blood, so I'll most likely get the M4 in 2-3 yrs

Great car, but it is heavy and relatively little torque for my current tastes.

Porsche Cayman is an interest of mine, as well. I'm just concerned with mid-engine maintenance.

The M3 is without a doubt a nicer looking car both inside and out. The seats are also more comfortable. The wheels are sick. It does not have the instant get up and go that my TT N54 has and John agrees. I am curious what my car would feel like with FBO + Cobb. Luckily, John also has a 335i with JB4 and he has offered to let me test drive it as we'll next week. This will give me an appreciation for the feel of a tuned N54 although, as I understand things, the 335is is considered slightly "tuned." I have been searching 335is vs M3 and opinions are split. Everyone agrees that the M3 is the "cooler" car but I think the difference comes down to top speed and tracking. The FBO 335is beats the stock M3 in 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile every time...so I am still on the fence. Either way I get a "new" car here soon. I took a pic but can't copy to Bimmerpost on stoopid iPad2. I'll post tomorrow from office desk top. Ciao.
Mike it was great meeting up with you and talking cars. I have been reading a lot on the m3/335 since we met and it seems like the tuned n54 is just a torque beast like we already knew. My 335 dyno'd at 379hp and 3XX torque with just the PROceed. It's sick how mod-able the 335 really is. I miss that torque already. The m3 makes all its power up top so to truly test it you have to ring out 1st and 2nd which by that time u are flying. I've been trying to look up ways to get some cheap hp on the m3 but looks like there is very little bolt ons that give anything but min power gains.
One thing the m3 crowd claims is that for auto cross type driving the m3 really outperforms the tuned 335. Of course this is the m3 crowd talking. So could be bs but the handling and steering feel superior on the m3 now how that translates to a road course idk.
My goal is to keep slinging houses until the m4 comes out then I think the tt and M together should make for a truly one of a kind M car. The 335 showed me just how cheap moding can be. I miss that for sure but so far I still have m3 glasses on and I like the attention the car makes ha. Until one of you cob 335 mf'ers pulls up next to me lol

You speak of torque and Cayman in the same post?

You know you want a C63 AMG and be done with it! I'm curious when Caddy is going to give the ATS the "V" treatment?

No 335i vs M3 thread is a good thread. Everyone knows that a FBO 335i is going to beat an NA M3. I don't know why people need others to keep validating it over and over. If you want to go fast for cheap, the M3 is not for you.

The key is the definition of fast. If straight line is all you care about then the more economical platform is the 335i. If canyons/tracks are your playground the M3 is the better starter package.

If you want to be supreme in both arenas buy a GTR or 911 Turbo...

This is correct, but I don't think too many people here plan on tracking their cars. Obviously there are a few though.

I want a light, tossable car. And, I want a car with a V8 and torque. No one makes that in a single car. Compromise may be necessary. Unless, I stuff an LS3 in a Z3 coupe...

Yep, what you want is an albatross... An albatross you'll have to make.

Or you can get yourself a Shelby Cobra kit car!

www.factoryfive.com

Or buy a C63 AMG and gut it!

Or buy an E9X M3 with a supercharger!

Many different options out there!

Indeed. I'm hoping the new Stingray will drive down the prices of used C6 Z06s. I don't see myself as a Corvette person, but you can't argue with the packaged performance. If I went MB, I would probably look into a CLK 63 Black Series. Looks great and will hold its value. Just sucks about the transmission.

I would agree with this. The suspension on the M3 is better tighter and stronger. That is why a lot of the 335 guys upgrade to M3 suspension parts.

Do it....those things are beast. If I can afford it that is actually the next car I want, but if I can't the Audi will be my next choice. Unlike a lot of you, I'm more about looks with the necessary get up and go. I like the body lines of the S5 and the C63. Only down about the Audi is the tq.

I don't think C6 Z06 will see a big value drop until the C7 Z06 hit the market.

I have to pity the fools that will pay greater than MSRP to get the first C7 Stingrays knowing damn good and well that you still have at least two more heavily options models still to come...

I like the design and all but it's just silly! But I guess paying to be first is something people are willing to do (and that includes being the first to have their car sit at the dealership for a few weeks while some quirky bug is found that you have to wait for GM to find a good way to fix...)

You are right. I'm just blindly hopeful.

Agreed fully. People throw money away for the dumbest reasons. Dealers are licking their chops, right now.

Well I am coming full circle on this whole M3 vs 335iS discussion and may just stay with Vader and have Grant and Todd help me add the DCI, DP, FMIC and Cobb AP...but maybe, just maybe I'll pony up for the M3 in October. Alot of the 2011 e92's are coming off lease for about $54K. I'll admit that I am a bit disappointed about all the anti-M3 stuff there is out on the Forums and the internets. I was really hoping that the M3 was going to be the shit, the whole shit, and nothing but the shit. But a few more test drives and hopefully a little racing with John and I can make up my mind. Who is going to Gonzales this weekend? Or we can do a quick meet and drive on our own.

Yeah, if you want the shit, whole shit, and nothing but the shit you're gonna have to get a GTR. Everything else is catered to a specific audience. I take it since you keep going back and forth that straight line speed is your primary driver?

I got your text man. I'm in LA till Sunday.

Read this http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=745641

I've had both and I like the m3 better however you can't deny the straight line speed of a tuned n54.
