This has happened to my parents 2011 328xi and from what I remember from googling it's somewhat common with many different causes (heat, battery issues, etc). In my case it only happened once and after restarting the car it went away. Hopefully the same with you just let the car rest for a while then start her back up again.

I would try maybe disconnecting battery charging it with tender and reconnecting it and see what happens from there. I dont know much about the nav's since mine doesnt have that option but thats what id try.

Just disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and nothing. I'm in nj there is a heat wave. The car cic starts up radio works.. Anything to do with the hard drive doesn't work for example Nav and the music collection. Seems like a computer trying to boot over and over.. Car was programmed about 1 month ago due to similar issue.

Got the car to BMW this morning good is they were able to take it and see whats wrong with it - bad is - they had altimas left for loaner cars or Audi a3's. Went back to my roots and took the A3.
S/A said he has never heard of this but looked into it and seems like its a CIC replacement headed my way. I am out of warranty and may cost me right under 2k. Any suggestions? |

This is common issue already. Suggestion is Connecting line CIC/CID (61 11 9 185 171 or 61 12 6 935 686) depending on car options. Discussion here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=303797 Hope this helps. Please let me know results! |

Here is my thread on this issue:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=885132 If this happens to me again, I'll replace the $37 video cable before I would even consider taking it to the dealer or blow $1800 on a new CiC. How did they determine it was the CiC and not just the cable? |

Mine happened 3 times in one day. And it hasn't done it since. Really strange.

NBT?
I have a 2011 328i xdrive (e90 LCI) with idrive, and my screen went red the other day, and after 2 min, it went black. Now I have no screen, no audio, and I have the SOS error message in my dash cluster. I pulled the center apart (removed the panel, climate controls, cd player and what I assume is the CIC directly under it), and now have an empty hole in my center dash. All the wires look ok. Do I need to pull the screen? How can I test the CIC to verify that is the problem? Which cable is the one going to the screen (and part number or URL to order a new one)? How can I tell if it is damaged, or do I just order a new one and hope it works? This is so frustrating! Marcus |
