Help on a few fault codes A3AD and A3AE

Hi all. I'm trying to determine some codes, and whether they relate to some fast idle rough running, and some low speed jerkiness.

I read the codes with Carly and the following faults are making me think they might be something: A3AD and A3AE.

As far as I know these are communication faults, not necessarily hardware failure.

BASE: E91
BUILD-YEAR: 2007
MODEL: 335 i alle/all (86)
<--------------------------->
Instrument cluster / Kombiinstrument:
- Fault: CAN signal fault engine
- Code: A3AD
- Fault: CAN signal fault engine idle
- Code: A3AE
<--------------------------->

I've logged some files with MHD and the data there seems to be all ok.

I'm trying hard to remember what fixed this issue or if it went away on its own. I no longer own the car. Are you having any trouble starting the car or power accessories acting weird? Could be battery, ibs sensor or voltage regulator. I ended up replacing all 3 but i dont remember if thats what corrected the issue. Also, check the engine ground wire. If you have after market coils you can check that too. Any other symptoms? I hope this helps.

Car start but won’t stay at idle. Misfires and electronic are wild. And I’m sure the doors won’t lock

Can’t remember dude. I think most of my problems were down to the intercooler overheating due to the tune. I put a bigger intercooler on and it solved a lot of the problems.

Not the car overheating, just the intercooler. Engine was pulling timing because air was too warm in the chambers. I changed for cooler spark plugs too

I would check out battery, ibs sensor or voltage regulator. I doubt its a fuse. Electrical problem can cause all the symptoms you mentioned. The voltage regulator is part of the alternator. The ibs sensor attaches to the battery and it lets the DME control the battery voltage. Have your battery and alternator tested.

Is the misfire detected on a certain cylinder? If none of the above helps, it may be ignition related like coils. But, I doubt it since the wipers, door locks and idle is an issue. Points to something voltage or battery related I believe.

If you don't want to go to the dealer, you can replace 1 part at a time to see if it helps. It may be time to replace those items if it hasn't been done before. If the battery and alternator reads good, then try ibs sensor and voltage regulator. You could at least get them to diagnose it for you and you could DIY it.
