Questions about JB4 Kits

I have a 2007 N54 and want to get a JB4. I am going to also want to add Bluetooth connectivity since I have an old Android phone I will use as a dedicated screen for this.

I am a little confused since see people selling these on eBay and some say they have a G5 or iOS, etc. Are there different/better versions of the JB4 for N54 engines out there? Are they all the G5 or should I avoid a G4, one setup for iOS, etc.??

I was hoping to find one used to save a few bucks, hopefully with the Bluetooth add on. I would take one without the Bluetooth add on included since I am sure there is a cheaper way to get a generic Bluetooth not made by BMS.

It's ISO, not iOS. G5 ISO is the latest and is considered the best version and is the only one being sold new these days. The G5 non ISO, I believe, came before the ISO version, G4 before that... You'd need to get the BMS BT connection kit if you want Android connectivity, I don't believe there are any other compatible adapters.

OK that makes sense. There was an ad on ebay that literally had "iOS" in it.
So what changed with the version 5 an dis it a firmware update? I thought that they were able to get lifetime firmware updates for free?

They are hardware revisions between the different versions of the board, incrementally improving its abilities every time. If I'm not mistaken, a G5 can be made into a G5 ISO by clipping the diodes from the circuit...which is better there is debatable and you'll have to search and decide if buying an older, used, non ISO board is better than the ISO. Keep in mind, BMS deemed the non ISO(referred to as integrated) obsolete back in 2013, so any non ISO board will be at least that old. They get free lifetime firmware updates until a new board is released and support for the previous generation fades and resources are aimed at the new product.

Thanks for the info. I will try to get the newest one I can. I may end up with new since the used ones sell for so much.

Check out this page too. I could have sworn my JB4 was the latest, I believe it was even G5 ISO but for some reason I had to purchase the JB4 Replacement/Upgrade Chip. It worked with my car just fine without it but I couldn't upgrade the Firmware and I think I needed to in order to get 6 cylinder logging activated or something.

Shipping is $7 so I would consider the possibility of having to spend another $32 on top of a used JB4 to get it up to the current revision or whatever.

I wouldn't purchase a used JB4 because, as far as I know, there is no way to reset them to factory settings. There are >30 different options that can be toggled via the steering wheel controls and there's not much of a way to tell what's on/off.

I would purchase the JB4 direct from BMS, the bluetooth connect kit can be bought from wherever as long as it works with the G5 ISO. Also, you'll want to update the JB4's firmware as soon as you get it.

There are many various versions of the BMS JB4. It's even harder to tell what is what without seeing the motherboard and having BMS advise (which they may not).

It's best to go new as there are also many scammers/frauds offer used products these days, especially to unsuspecting people.

Keep in mind you may save a few bucks and get lucky or you may just cost yourself time money and aggravation trying to sift through all the available options.

The latest JB4 is a G5 ISO but many revisions of those exist from years prior.

I know I took a risk but I bought one and it arrived yesterday. It came with a meth sensor that I don't need right now and a data cable for $350. I opened it up and the circuit board looks good with no scorching corrosion Etc the board said "rev 2" on it.
