What is the error code?

Driving home today, and as I'm on the off ramp of the interstate, the red gear and exclamation lights up, a "ding" and it's off again.
Car drives and shifts fine, nothing.

INPA tells me the EGS has code 511B logged.

The only thing I'm finding is N54 with JBX installed throwing these codes. My car is a '06 330i though.

The only thing that 511B tells me is SIB 24-11-06, leaking shaft. But in the SIB there's no mention of the code 511B.

I'm stumped. Anyone have any ideas? My INPA won't let me get into the transmission computer either to see if anything else is askew.

I sent you a file. Can INPA read your gearbox now? What is the error?

Any other anomalies with the transmission? How many miles?

Having just went through a 6 month ordeal with my tranny, I hope all is well with yours and it's just a random fluke. Mine turned out to be a bad mechatronic, but not before a trans shop replaced everything but the mechatronic. Mine was giving code 5113 I think.

Did you guys change the oil in your transmission even once until you got a car?

I changed mine when I got the car (~63000 miles/100000 km ) and every 50000 miles/80000 km or so after that (it has 172000/280000 km on it now). I use ZF Lifeguard 6 fluid.

What are the symptoms? It is not the error I think, it is some service requirement.

It's on page 75 of my manual: Roadworthiness Test.

That's the reminder to have your car checked for roadworthiness (aka road inspection, usually required for vehicle registration), as GenePoole mentioned earlier. It's not an error but a service reminder that can be reset quite easily.

I'm at 119k miles, no problems with transmission whatsoever. I'm still on the original fluid too. I was told by Indy shop that if I didn't have any problems, I shouldn't flush/change it.

The fault hasn't happened but the one time it came on. And it continues to shift and drive as normal.

You should change the tranasmission fluid and you shouldn't to listen people who say that if you don't have problems you don't need to flush/change it.
