BMW has actually discontinued 5w-30 and switched to 0W-30. Once the 5-30 is gone, that's it. If you want to keep using 5w-30, you're going to have to get it/get it done elsewhere.

Interesting....I've never gotten an oil change from the dealer before, I've always DIYed all my oil changes.

But my friend got an oil change last week at the dealer and they did put 0W-30 into an F30 328i.

I do my own too, but I went in to get a part from the counter and there was a big sign posted at the parts counter about it.

5w-40 liquimoly in the summer, might go to a 0w-30 or 0w-40 in the colder months, I drive up a large hill right away every morning so i need that protection

I am itching to try the Pennzoil Platinum Euro that is either 0w40 or 5w40, I forget which. I run the Pennzoil Platinum in other vehicles and the used oil analysis came back excellent.

Recently had the oil changed and used Castrol Edge Full Synthetic 0W-40.
The previous oil I used was Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W-30 and before that Castrol Edge Full Synthetic 5W-40.
My ride ran just fine using Pennzoil and the same with Castrol Edge 5W-40. Running fine with the current 0W-40.

I know this was recently changed, but my dealership is using 10w-30 now. Does it depend on where you live?

5w-30 OEM

Also that 'w' does not stand for weight. It's winter. The first number describes the viscosity when cold, the second when at full operating temperature.
