Help with parts/locations

Hi All,

Hopefully someone will be able to assist me. I bought my BMW in June and have so far had the 2 recalls completed by BMW and changed the brake servo sensor myself (stop/start now working).

Having used Carista I have found fault codes relating to the NOX Sensor (2AF2/4/6) and the electric fan (2EFE), so now looking at these 2 to get the car fault free.

NOX Sensor:
I have read many forum posts and can see that it can be done as a DIY job - 1) has anyone done this using axle stands? 2) the price of a NOX Sensor seems to range from £100 to £600, is there a specific one to buy? 3) after it's installed, how do I reset the adaptations?

Electric Fan:
Currently looking to diagnose before spending huge sums on a new fan. I will be checking the fuses at the weekend and my next port will be the connections to the fan itself and the relay. My question is, where is the relay? Online searches show many different relays in many different cars but I cannot find a definitive for the e90.

Hopefully that makes sense, and thanks in advance.

Assuming it is a 320i?

Nox sensor is easy enough to do and you can do it on the drive. Awkward with the heat shield as the box lives above it.

Just get a genuine BMW one to replace it but make sure you don't have the NOX cat aged code or else you'll never get rid of it.

Resetting the adaptions is easy enough with INPA or ista, head over to bimmerprofs for instructions on how to do it there.

Yeah either of those with do it.

Not familiar with Carista myself.

Thanks - I have downloaded INPA and ordering a K+DCAN cable so I can check the car.

I have seen your comments on other threads and guessing I am looking for the dreaded 30E9 error code?

I've concluded there are 3 main options, none are ideal.

Replacement OEM exhaust
NOXEM
Remap

Replacement OEM exhaust is expensive.

The NOXEM does seem to be a good solution but I'm not sure the quality control is there on those. Some report no issues at all while others report problems after short periods of time.

If someone could flash an unmodified OEM map that simply disabled the NOX system that would be a good option but I'm not sure anyone understands the system well enough to do that.

It doesn't seem a wide spread issue to be fair. I'm not sure why my car has suffered with it. The code was showing at only 30k miles when I bought it 3 odd years ago. It is most likely as a result of sulphur poisoning, but the car doesn't use much oil at all, maybe a little top up every 10k but I change it then anyway. Very odd.
