Exclamation New EGR Campaign

This might be old news to some....

I took the car in for a scheduled service today and I was advised there is a new campaign out for the EGR. I have already had the EGR valve replaced along with a software update, but this is new.

This campaign only involves a reprogram, but requires that I leave the car over night.

Chris, can you get the campaign number? I *think* some of us might be able to skip this one (maybe).

I will tomorrow when I pick up the car. Unfortunately I do not have a scanner at home so I will not be able to scan it until I get back to work on the 7th.

Why would you want to skip it Joseph (other than the issue of tune over-write)?

Yeah, I had this done when I got my car back from the shop, but forgot to get the details so I could inform everyone. Honestly, we've had so many darn reprograms that I have trouble keeping track of what is new to the community and what isn't.

Depending on which recall number it is, I might not have to get it done. I called on one of the newer recalls posted here, and it was covered by work the dealer had already done. So, I can hope (probably fruitlessly) that I won't need this one either. I'll at least call my SA with the program number and find out first. And yes, I'll be really bummed if I have to get the tune written on yet again.

Here's the thread for the previous campaign to which I referred, just for the sake of keeping a record: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=758683

So that is the same one most of us have reported. I didn't get it. I asked the dealer not to perform it at this time till I get more information what exactly the update will address.

Car seems to drive fine. I am sure my mpg's will suffer for the few tanks - like last time, but as long as they get back to where they were I am okay with it.

I am of the mind-set if it does anything to mitigate carbon build-up I am all for it.

i *thnk* that's the one my SA told me I didn't need - the B13 04 12 part, anyway. However, all those additional codes (2.48.2, etc.) have me curious, so I'll call next week and give him the info and see what shakes out.

Took my D in today for a SES light and found my 5/2011 build needed the programming SIB.
Did not feel any difference during my drive home other than trans shifting smoother.

They replaced the EGR cooler for the SES light, tech said it was nearly 100% clogged.

I agree no difference felt and other than my car's DME learning my driving habits all over again and thus suffering in the mpg department all seems to be well.

Interesting. What code were you getting to trigger the SES?

Had my D serviced last week Friday and the software update was done. I also had my fuel filter and air filter replaced. The car feels more responsive over all but the shit points feel noticeably smoother and more refined. So I'm not sure what the update really focuses on. Only thing I've noticed is the smoother shift points.

Mines a 4/11 build and never had the EGR recall done.

+1, but I attributed the responsiveness to the new fuel filter. Perhaps not?

I didnt ask what the code was, just had my usual tech work on the car. If I am reading the notes right, the fault was D1170?

I have a 7/2011 build. I last had my car serviced last summer (routine oil change). They did not do any recall work or reprogramming.

Should I give my dealer a call and inquire if I am in need of this campaign?
I haven't had any SES lights. However, I live in a small town with few opportunities to open her up.

I have to say this EGR/ carbon build-up issue has me worried about the long term of this car. I love the car and would love to keep it a god long while.

Check the recall roundup thread to see latest info for your build dates. That info is current as of a week ago.

Would driving exclusively in DS mode help minimize this?
