So I pulled to the side and thought it was because of my spark plugs since my car has 38k miles and I recently installed cobb stage 1 without changing the spark plugs.

So I pull over, put the cobb in stage 0 and turned the car back on. No engine malfunction light yet, but this time when I start the car, it vibrated quite badly during idle, and when I try to drive it, it would go very slow but the RPM would be quite high without shifting up (I have an AT). So after about 10 seconds of trying to drive, the engine malfunction light comes back on, and so I pulled over again. When I came to a stop, the RPM would jump between 600 to 1200 every second. So I decided to uninstall cobb and called bmw road side service.

When I read the code form cobb, it showed over 5+ codes, and the ones I remember are fuel pump, injector, and dsc. There were a couple more but I can't remember them. My car is currently in bmw of sterling, waiting for a diagnostic. Would appreciate some opinions from the guys here. Thanks!

Summary:

Cobb stage 1 -> WOT in 2nd -> exhaust changed sound (became deeper) -> engine malfunction light -> pulled over, vibration during idle -> uninstalled cobb -> car goes very slow even at more than 50% throttle -> pulled over, RPM jumps between 600-1200 -> towed
you have to post the codes.....

The change in exhaust note, is this not just some odd little thing that the COBB tune does randomly on occassion? I was cruising at 50mph yesterday and all of a sudden the exhaust note changed, I'm guessing the WG's open slightly more or something. No issues with the car at all, v4.01 (again).

Other than that, no complaints and I haven't noticed rich running since reflashing the v4.01 which is odd. I'm sticking here for the time being and will wait for the official release .

I am pretty sure is just the change in WG. I also get that a bit annoying sometime.

Are the v400 maps coming out of beta anytime soon?

I don't even abuse mine... mine is DD so I can't afford my car to have too many problems. I just notice the smell when sitting at a stoplight in traffic. Less smelly in v301 than v400 maps. Def smells like burnt tranny or clutch, but I have AT so I don;t know if that's possible.

My sister said she couldn't smell it on the passenger side but more on the driver side. This is a noticeable observation since I am getting more soot on the driver side exhaust pipe. Anyone else have some insight to what this could be?

This doesn't exactly belong in the "Cobb tuning" thread Lol. You will probably get better/more responses if you posted in the general 3 series section.
FWIW: my advice to buy a low mileage car under CPO warranty that is unmodified.

If you have aftermarket exhaust(or possibly even if it's stock) you may have a leak at the midpipe and you are smelling the exhaust. But that's just a guess.

Coming from the JB4 the Cobb is a nice and clean throttle and less "cut up" for lack of a better term.

I do notice when running 4.01 St 1 aggressive excessive soot, as some of you mentioned on the exhaust.

Seems to be running a bit rich at idle or low rpm.

I have catless DP and just an axleback. Is this smell the catless smell that everyone hates? I thought the catless smell was just a gasoline like smell?

ATR is currently in testing and we are hoping for a release very soon. We don't have an exact ETA, but I'm hoping before June. The v400 maps will be released out of Beta once we resolve the boost oscillation issue. The fix is currently in testing and we're expecting positive results!

With your secondary cats still in place you should not be getting too much of a fuel/exhaust smell...
If you go completely catless and remove the 2nd cats, then you WILL notice a distinct smell.

I was suggesting that maybe where the mids and DPs bolt together you may have an exhaust leak. You should hear an exhaust leak, but it could be a small one.

No, the catless smell doesn't smell like gasoline. It's hard to describe but it's not gasoline. It's kind of like a sulfer smell.

Agreed. That smell is like being behind an old muscle car, not so much gasoline, but a sulfur"ish" odor.

I will check the connection. Does it sounds like an intake leak almost?
