Heater fan not working properly

I drive an 06 330. Im having problems with the heater fan speed. It is only blowing at 50-80% when switched to the max. At times without me even adjusting it the speed will change. Seems to be cutting in and out. I do not have it set to auto. Talked to the dealer service dept and they have an idea of what it could be. He told me the part is $180. I just can't remember what the actual part he referred to is called. Want to try and find it for less somewhere else.

I appreciate your offer, but I'm taking it back to the dealer on Monday for a proper inspection.

Im having similar problem; the heater is blowing air only maybe 5-15% when switched to the max. It doesnt do anydifference whether I set it to Auto or manually to any speed. Only when I press windshield defroster button it starts to blow hot air at 100%. Any idea what's the problem?

This was a common problem on the E46 - it was caused by the final stage resistor.
