Brake lights wont go off...?
For some reason my brake lights are continuously staying on...any ideas why this might be? I have no warnings or anything for their being a problem on my dash. I also have a procede...dont know if that matters.

Make sure your pedal returns all the way back. There is a hall-effect switch that just sees the metal from the prake pedal go away and tells the footwell module to turn the brake lights on. As a backup, the DSC also will turn on the brake lights if it sees pressures above a certain threshhold. You may have to check for codes - brake pedal switch implausible, something like that.
You may just have a bad switch or more likely the pedal is unable to return all the way to the switch.

Are you sure its the brake lights and not the taillights with day time running lights engaged?
When you have daytime lights on your taillights are on too. Go through your menu and disable your day time running lights. |

Yes I'm positive its the actual brake lights and not the daytime lights. I checked that first because I thought the same thing.

I would think if it was the brake switch wouldn't the lights would stay on when the vehicle is turned off. A VW I had had that that issue and even with the car off and key removed the lights would be on.

You will have to pull the lower cover under the driver's dash area to see the brake pedal switch. Ensure nothing is hanging up and holding the pedal down, even a 1/4" will turn the brake lights on. Aftermarket stereo or additional wiring up under the dash is typically quite shoddy and could be the cause. Otherwise it would be a bad switch.

Jeff my car has daytime lights and only the front come on all the time. The tail lights only come on when it turns the actual lights on because the sensor detects low light or time is around 8pm (I have it on auto). Yeah am 100% sure only the rings stay on all the time not the tail lights. A buddy of mine has new 2012 F10 5series and it acts just like my car so maybe there is something wrong with your car.

how hard is it to pull that lower cover off? and if it is a bad switch what are my steps on fixing this? i pulled back on the pedal to see if it wasn't coming all the way back up or something and it all seemed fine but brake lights are still on...

61 31 6 967 601 should be the correct part number. Order online at getbmwparts.com or other parts warehouse of your choice.

I changed my brake pads the other week and replaced the sensor and reset the brake service...but could it be possible I did not install the sensor correctly and this cause my rear brakes to stay on all the time? remember that I have no errors or anything on my dash
