Nothing to stop someone else opening up a rival one
It's sad when certain factions on a board are at odds with the mods.

It happened on the 350Z UK forum and then the factions parted and setup two separate boards.....

I did participate on both forums as I new people from both boards. I visit less frequently nowadays as I don't own the car anymore....

Talking

I think a major factor, in this case, was the fact that the site was owned by the Volvo Owners Club (VOC), which will have some affiliation with Volvo themselves.

Although the post mentions 'garage', I'm making an assumption that this is a Volvo garage / dealer, although I suppose it could be any garage.
Anything making the VOC look as though it isn't 'seen' to be backing the dealers, is bound to cause problems for them.
It's easy to sit back & let problems easily escalate. It is the moderators' responsibility to ensure that does not happen.

Things are slightly different on here. The E90Post forum is hosted & owned by administrators in the US. If UK dealers, specifically, have problems with any comments made by members on here, then they could try approaching me. I'd certainly tell them where they can go.

In all seriousness, if dealers have problems with forums, because the members on forums have problems with their dealers, then who's really to blame?

I rest my case, for now.

I'm not a fan of the mods on here - they are very heavy handed. Particularly with non-BMW's who ruin photo shoots by parking in a lineup of E90's...

Too true Viv. Boards like this are invaluable sources of information.
The community generally knows more about the subject matter than any of the dealers. Also it's good for community members to share their experiences of dealers customer service, expertise and professionalism - so that other members don't get ripped off and are able to make a more informed decision about where they should put their business

Obviously I'm not advocating users/members making defamatory or libelous comments that cannot be substantiated by the other party. However, other forums do have an 'active' membership from the dealer community too. This helps put more business their way and gives more confidence to the wider forum community from dealers who are in the know.

If it's ME you're referring to, Paul, well...I loved telling those non-BMW drivers that they were illegally parking in a private photo shoot.

I know for a fact, irrespective of what they may say, that a number of individuals from several dealerships around the country, use the forum as a good source of information about the E9x.
Quite simply, they have access to more accurate, more detailed & more reliable information from here, than they do through their own network. Strange, but true.

We've lucky to have a lot of members here, who have a good range of knowledge of experience of their cars & their associated problems.

It is somewhat irritating that BMW has not been seen to be making use of our attributes, to help them to help us. Hopefully, this will be changing.

Here's to better communication, improved customer service & happier members.

All the best.

Viv

you have to have a board of directors as the "club" becomes a buiness in effect run by a board of elected people responsible for funds and day to day activitied, ergo Directors, this is exactly what the 350z crowd ended up doing. AGM's etc etc

Big step to take as it requires liability insurance etc etc

Can't remember the exact reason they went down the route think they had legal pressure from Nissan to go legit or close down believe it or not. Something like that anyway.
