switched to liqui moly oil. normal?

i switched from castrol 5w-40 to 5w-30 liquimoly after reading good reviews. i noticed right away that it takes way longer to warm up, and that oil guage shows 10º lower oil temp. It never even gone past 100 after a few log pulls, which before it used to go upwards of 120.

is this frn the brand or just switching from 30-40? is it normal or good?

LM is good oil. I'm a big fan. I noticed a little drop in oil temp when I started using it in my M3. so now it goes in the 335

I actually experienced this too and have also asked the same question. I never actually got a actual viable answer so I just thought that since it is a good thing, I will remain a happy customer!

Why 5w30? Liqui moly is nice stuff, but unless you live in the Yukon territory the 5w40 will be better.

5w first - 40 second

5w30 and 5w40, to the lower temps in Yukon or other places, is the same, it is 5w (5 Winter), it means how the oil performs at 0 degrees celsius and is the important thing to consider when you live in low temp States. 30 or 40, the second part, is how the oil perform at 100 celcius, and it is independent of the outside temp, it is the interior temp of the engine. So if your engine normally never pass 100 celsius or 212 fahrenheit then you use 30 grade oil, if your engine gets past 100 celsius, then use a 40 grade oil. The winter part can be as low as you can buy, 0w if you can. That is the reason race cars use 60 or heavier grade oils, because or high temps, so at that condition the oil performs as a 30 grade one. As we are no rece drivers we use 5w or 0w - 30 or 5w or 0w 40 if you are a spirited driver or just to be on the safer side.

Lighter oil takes more time to heat up.
