Just added MMP downpipes. They are on-sale for $199.99. The car really sounds awesome!!! I think it's actually quieter on the hwy then before. This gets me thinking and questions the OEM cats. At 162,000 miles, maybe they were starting to get clogged and starting to go?!

There is hardy any drone what so ever at 79-80mph. My set up is this from the OEM (original) turbos back:

1) OEM original turbos
2) MMP down pipes
3) Vibrant 1790 High Flow Resonators
4) Magna Flow X-pipe
5) 335IS mufflers w/ golf tee mod.

I'll post a video or two of what this setup sounds like on cold start & warm start.

I do have MMP inlets & outlets as well as an AFE Cold Air Intake Box (Magnum FORCE Pro 5R Stage 2 Air Intake System).

These items before the turbos will effect to some degree how the exhaust sounds too.

If you are wondering what the gold is. I have the MMP outlets wrapped in Gold Heat Reflective tape as well as my exhaust side, Turner Motorsports Poly engine mounts 60a. Never can be too careful. This engine gets really HOT!

You're saying your catless DP's are quieter than the OEM ones? That's interesting. Mine are definitely louder that OEM DP's with stock exhaust.

Great setup. Are you still in Holy? I would like to meet you at one of the meets this year or just whenever since I am in Troy.

Do you have Resonators? I think the OEM cats were starting to get clogged after 162,000 miles.

At start up, the exhaust is definitely louder than stock regardless if it's cold or warm startup.

However, at hwy cruising speed, it's quieter with the downpipes than with the OEM cats. I don't know why. It just is.

Ya, I'm not a big fan of the PE Mod to be honest. You end up paying like $400.00 for them to be done do it, or yourself (if you can weld) for a fraction of that price and you don't really get that PE sound anyway. You can get a used set of 335is mufflers, on this forum, shipped to your door for around $500.00 fairly easily.

No offense....

The 335is mufflers are basically the PE mufflers but with the added damper valve on the driver's side. The PE exhaust does not have this valve. I Golf Tee Modded my valve so it's open 24/7/365.

The pipe configuration inside the 335is is not the same as the the 335i muffler. Hence the different sound. I'd also venture to say that the stuffing in the 335is muffler is different too.

I have never seen the inside of the PE muffler. I have googled it and google imaged it a million times. To date no one has cut one open and posted a picture of them. However, a picture of the 335is muffler has been cut open and posted.

My "theory" is that the 335is & PE muffler Re the same except for two things. 1) baffle valve on the 335is 2) black tips on the 335is

They just sound way too similar to be different from the inside piping wise.

See below: the first pic is the 335is muffler & the second pic is the 335i stock muffler

I did the PE mod only on the driver side because I wanted my car to be quiet on demand with the valve controller i'm using.

I got a full 40k mile n55 exhaust with oem x pipe and no secondary cats with the PE mod done for $250. I wasn't looking for pe exhaust sound and specifically wanted the cats gone over anything else. My 150k mile exhaust was beat and cats were likely partially clogged because I picked up a decent amount of power just from switching exhausts.

As of now I use the exhaust meister when I want it quiet. So the pe mod on the driver side is exactly what I wanted. For me I didn't want to spend more money on only mufflers and still have a full stock exhaust in front of that.

But yeah, if people are getting together, i'd love to meet up.

IMO, the best sounding exhaust is the BMW PE exhaust for our cars. They run around $750.00 used on this forum plus shipping. The 335is mufflers are a steal IMO just because I really believe they are the same muffler.

The only reason why I have the Vibrant HF Resonators in place of the secondary cats is drone. Once I put the X-pipe in place of the OEM resonator, I got HWY drone. The 335i sedans w/ n54's all had Resonators on them. The coups don't, but they have an H-pipe. Some think it's an X-pipe, but it's really not. It's hard to find an H-pipe similar to the one BMW uses on its coupes, so everyone just installs a MF x-pipe, which does yield a slightly different sound.

I have to fix my crank seal again. Having a bear of a time with it using the expensive BMW sealant and primer. You can barely push out any real sealant into the key holes via needle. If you push too hard, you break the tiny needle. You really gotta push with a plunger really hard just to get 2-3 drops out of the syringe. I've put sealant in the keyholes prior to install and then injected the sealant too. Still won't stop leaking. I even waited 24 hours for cure time. Ran the car for 20 min & the seal seemed to be holding. I checked on it today. No dice.

Gonna try Ultra Black this time around. Got two seals coming tomorrow. This will be my weekend !

Below is an MF X-pipe. The second pic is the H pipe on a 335i coupe exhaust.

I noticed the same thing; on one of my e90s I had stock DPS and the other, VRSF:

the one with VRSF was loud during cold start but quieter during driving
the stock one was about the same at all times but more exhaust sound inside

You could take Telegraph all the way. Less then an hour drive?
I'll probably be getting there around 8 to see if I can park on the main deck.
Message me your number and I will try and meet up before or during.

Do you think catted 200CEL or 300CEL downpipes would eliminate the need to replace the secondary cats with vibrant resonators?

Was the differences between the secondary cats and vibrant resonators in terms of sound tone and volume significant?

Also, is it possible to buy only the "mid section" of the exhaust so I can keep my stock one as backup? Do they bolt up or does it require welding?

Hope you will post more vids of it, maybe in-cabin on the highway or something!

Also for the Magnaflow X-pipe, did you get the 2.25" or 2.5" diameter?

Looks like 10790 is 2.25", 10791 is 2.5". Did you match the resonators with the x-pipe pipe inner diameters?

Stage 1 - MHD (warm start)

On my first video it was stage 0 and a cold start. That video was right after I just put everything together and walnut blasted etc.

Notice the lack of smoke of stage 1.

I have the wastegate rattle unchecked. I don't need that that since I have both wastegate fixed mechanically.

I guess stage 0 has the software fix embedded into that stage, which in essence is now causing excess smoke on stage 0. 🤔

Always use 2.5". Our exhaust pipes are 2.38". It's easier to slide the new part over and weld it for a muffler shop. Also, the 1792 Resonators are a little bigger and do a better job of getting rid of drone and rasp.
