Hello fellow diesel nerds. My 2011 base model is due for its first brake pad change at 125K miles. Apparently my one track day at Summit Point did not do too much damage if they are still going strong at this mileage.

I have a set of OEM pads from the amazing folks at IDparts just waiting to be installed, but thinking I may as well swap out the rotors. Rock Auto has Bosch Quietcast (whatever that is) for $55 rear and $91 front (ea). Any thoughts?

Zimmerman rotors from FCPEuro are a better deal. They're made in Germany. They have an anti-corrosion coating so the hats don't rust. They're about $10 cheaper. Shipping is free (you'll pay about $50 at RockAuto for shipping.) And you get a lifetime warranty. Fin.

Coating is really nice but Rotors still rusted a bit but I think that's because of the wonderful stuff they put down on the roads in maine
Not a big deal though I'll probably paint them and the rotors this summer

Also have Zimmerman rotors and TRW pads.

There is minimal break dust which i like alot.

Tho the coating on zimmerman isn't enough for the salty roads in winter but when new they look great.

I just bought Brembo replacement front rotors and pads for my X5 and they have performed flawlessly.


At $74USD each, I consider it a bargain for this ~13-3/4" OD plated and balanced rotor!

Bought them from Partsource (in Canada) which is similar to your Autozone/Advance/O'reilly stores.

I recommend FCP Euro (I have no affiliation with them whatsoever), because whatever you buy can be replaced for free when it's time for the next set. Can't beat that.

I installed their kit with Zimmerman rotors, Akebono ceramic pads, wear sensors, and pad lube about a month ago and I'm satisfied with it. Just slightly less bite than OEM on the pads, but I don't track so it's a non-issue. The positive tradeoff is that they exhibit zero brake dust on the wheels - a huge plus to me, as I'm an OCD clean car guy.

When I'm due for pads next, I'll just get the whole kit again and do my rotors too. Why not if it's free? Brakes are an easy job.

Thanks for all the advice. Installed the Zimmerman rotors and Textar pads yesterday. Two lessons learned: 1) When you first hit the brakes on coated rotors it sounds like you just fed a bag of gravel into a wood chipper, but it's normal until the coating wears off after 5-10 stops. 2) After scratching my head over how to get the Foxwell to disable the e-brake on the rears, I figured out that my 335d does not have an e-brake. Doh.
