cool, thanks spn; can you keep a look out for Bellona? I don't think AIS is taking new trials, been waiting like 4 days for mine; ahhh... i can feel it, only a couple of more weeks now!

I will watch for Bellona. I didn't have any problems with AIS when I tracked my car last year. I signed up again for AIS last week, to track a friend's car, but it would only allow me to access the English Channel maps. AIS has been buggy this time around. Since I had tracked my SL last year, I knew about the Panama Canal map pages. I had to Google for the AIS Panama Canal web addresses the other day, so I could access them again. I found them on the MiniCooper forum and clicking on the links took me to the Panama pages without problems. Eureka! I don't know why they aren't allowing access to the Panama Canal through their public page drop-down menus, or why they aren't allowing new subscriptions. But, so far my login and links to the Panama Canal maps are working. I will watch for Bellona. My login should work for another week. Maybe yours will start working, too.

I just checked AIS again. No Bellona in Panama.

Here is the updated AIS map from a few minutes ago. No Bellona in the Panama Approach, yet. The ship I am tracking, Sagittarius Leader, passed through the Gatun Locks early this morning.

Here is an updated AIS of the Panama Approach. Still no Bellona, but I will keep watching for it. The ship I am tracking, the Sagittarius Leader, has just passed through the final lock and is heading into the Pacific Ocean.

I have twice seen an arrival date change from the initial scheduled date. But, that change took place within the shipping documentation early on when the ship was just leaving Bremerhaven. Once they get underway, it seems like the arrival date doesn't change. They seem to stick to their schedule, but I could be wrong. I am no shipping expert.

The arrival date is never soon enough for those of us tracking these ships. This time, I am tracking for a friend. But, I tracked my own car last year and I could barely stand the wait. Sue

Wow. Good questions. I would pay maybe $2000. My husband would pay $0. But, I am the one who traveled to Europe to get my car, drove it over there, then had to wait SEVEN WEEKS for it to be shipped home from Germany. He could care less about the wait. I am too crazy about my SL to have any patience to wait. My car has been home one year now and I am still crazy about it.

I really enjoy tracking this ship for my friend. It brings back great memories of my turn tracking my car. Seven weeks is a long time, though, and I don't think I would do it again.

I am curious how much it really costs to ship a car via air freight. These ships we are tracking hold 5000-6000 cars, so I don't think it would be possible for the car manufacturers to do it for every car. Too bad.

For those who don't have AIS, here is my final AIS PanCanal map posting of the night. I just captured it off the screen. There still is no Bellona on it, but I will check it again in the morning. Hang in there. . .

Falstaff is still hanging out at the same spot according to this. This makes me wonder if Bellona is waiting too.

It generally takes about seven days (from what I have seen) for a ship to go from the Panama Canal to the LA area. If it is due on June 10 or 11 into the LA area, then count back seven days and that is when you could possibly expect it in the Panama region. I have never tracked a ship that has had intermediate stops, so maybe this theory won't hold up.

by intermediate you mean Jacksonville? there are no other stops between Panama and Port Hueneme, right?

I think I read somewhere in this thread that Bellona stopped somewhere, but I just couldn't remember where and didn't want to dig for it in the thread. It must have been Jacksonville. That is what I was referring to. I don't know about any other stops. I hope not, for your sakes.

I bet Bellona is now heading to Panama Canal region and should be there any day. The ships I tracked each spent two days-ish in the Panama area, ie, waiting their turn and going through the locks. So, I think it should be very close for the Bellona's approach to the Panama region. If you take the arrival date of June 10 on the West Coast and subtract seven days (approx time it takes to get from the canal), that takes you to June 3, which is when it should be out of the canal region and headed north to CA. If you subtract two days from June 3, for the two days it takes to get through the canal region, that takes you to a Panama arrival day of June 1. Does that make sense? It is just a guess on my part and time will tell when it does make it to the Panama Approach. It is kind of a game (challenge) guessing, waiting and watching; something that passes the time while you wait.

I just checked the AIS map and it wasn't there.

Since I am online right now, I will jump in and answer it, as I don't think VIK is on right now. Attached is a map from

http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shiplocations.phtml

Falstaff is in the upper/middle of the map heading for the Panama Canal.

Here is the last position from yesterday...it hasn't updated for Falstaff so this might mean that it is on its way.
