I used to live in the City, which is why I drive a Mini Cooper. Bought an apartment in Kew Gardens (near Forest Hills) last year since I work in the Flushing area. With a parking spot behind the building (where the car will sit, fenced in, but outdoors and subject to the elements.)
My condo manager (also the architect of the building) drives a loaded 335i Coupe, sapphire black. The car sits in the basement parking lot and I frequently admire it when I walk by. I had a lengthy discussion with him about e9x cars the weekend before I ordered mine. He said the exhaust note for the 335 sounds sublime, but I'm just a sucker for hard top convertibles and decided to place an order for a 328i vert a few days afterwards. That's the only one in the area I think. In flushing where I work, there are two 335i convertibles, one's loaded with everything, including the OEM bodykits. (those 60k+ 3 series.... sick)

Cool. The difference in cost between parking indoors and outdoors is so huge almost anywhere in or near the city that most of the time it's not really worth the expense when considering just the financial aspect of accelerated depreciation. Personally for me, I would be ok parking outdoors but the outdoor lots in my neighborhood happen to be just as expensive as the garage in my building. Go figure. One big downside to parking in the garage is that it's valet-only, so I fully expect a new ding to materialize every day from the valets not giving a sh*t.
Seems like when it comes to the convertibles, people's priorities are a little different from coupe buyers. The convertible differentiates itself visually so much more from the 328i coupe than the 335i does, so it totally makes sense to me that many people who want a convert don't feel the need to spring for the twin turbos. It's just not the point. Just to switch gears for a sec, while we wait for god knows how long for the next sailwx update, anyone have any opinions/preferences on car insurance providers for NY? Spoke too soon -- there was an update at 8 PM EDT! You know, based on how far it's gone in 4 days, I can't help but hope that it might dock a little early. Does anyone know how to look up the arrival schedule at the NYC port? |

on schedule
Not scientific by any means, but I decided to track the progress of the ship using, get this, pixels in Photoshop!
Assuming the captain can average 2.5 pixels per hour, which is about the average on the journey (faster on open waters, slower near the busy east coast). Can't wait, can't wait!

The agency I use is run by a guy named Kevin Leong. In my experience they are good people. |

I've been on Geico for 3 years for my Mini Cooper, service is excellent. I'll shop around next year for a different rate at 25 years old.

cshsia, love the pixel/time analysis. I guess the ship probably won't come in early, but on-schedule is good enough.
extmtnbkr, Kevin Leong is the name I was referred to as well when looking for a State Farm agent in my area. Do you also live in the Chelsea/Flat Iron area? What kind of rate did you get? Geico is quoting me something ridiculously cheap like $615/6 months which sounds too good to be true. This is for 100k/300k liability, 50k property, $500 deductible for collision and comprehensive, 100/300k for uninsured motorists. |

I live in the West Village, I believe Kevin is the agent for my area and I wouldn't be surprised if he also covered Chelsea/FlatIron also. I paid around 515 or so for 6 months with coverage identical to what you mentioned above. Geico was somewhere around 525 for the same policy.
As I mentioned above, I think it helps your rate if you insure your apt through them also. |

I'm paying 900+/6 months since I moved to Kew Gardens, proximity to Jamaica is to blame. They don't seem to care I'm parked in a gated garage. That and the fact I was 24 when I got this quote.
Just spent 1 hour doing a written statement with a Geico field agent about my accident back in March. The guy drove to my office and was an absolute class act. I'd say the money is well spent for this type of service.

I read on the Patriot thread, which left 10/1 and arrived at NYC 10/15, that people were getting deliveries between 10/20 ~ 10/22
Assuming VDC works at the same pace, I'd have it by 11/3-5. Riditec, where did you order yours? BMW NYC?

Yeah, I got mine from BMW of Manhattan, aka BMW NYC. To get the car that first weekend of November would be awesome. My CA told me it would take "approximately 10-14 days" from ship unloading to the dealer. I don't really think that's an accurate estimate, it seems way too high.

Waiting is not so bad. Here is an activity that can make the next week and a half fly by. We can all watch the Red Sox play in the World Series. That is what some MLB teams get to do when they win more than one game in the post season. You guys with me?

once again you beat me to the punch. Nice to see that Long Island is clearly in the picture now!
Based on my PM with a fellow member on the Patriot thread, he got his car 1 week after the ship docks. Some members in DC got theirs 2 days earlier. Our ship docks on Mondays, so assuming processing works at the exact same pace, we pick it up between the 3rd and the 5th. 3rd would be sweet, that's my bday (and my mother's!), so my father's flying in from his job in India to celebrate. Not to mention an entire weekend of driving. My CA is only at Bayside BMW till 6 on Mondays, I wonder if she'd be willing to stay a bit later for me, or have someone take over.
