Looks great! Maybe they'll make a carbon fiber roof assembly for the vert someday to get rid of a few tons.

One question about the hood: I'm a total noob here, but...do you worry at all about rain getting into the engine bay through the vents? Never thought about it 'til now. (e.g. Would you bother to cover it with something when parked in the rain?)

Sooo...I Googled it, of course. Here is an interesting thread. Thoughts?

yup, you have to do a double take to know it's there... hopefully it's functional

It's all about setup and confidence. I used to have a track S2K but that thing was so tail happy and unpredictable I hated it. There was a guy with a fully raced out mid 90's Toyota Tercel (FWD) and he was killing it. You can track anything.

Every event I go to there's quite a few E90 M3s and M3's in general. I don't see many 335i guys though.

I strategically placed the vents in the center of the car away from the intake filters. Our engines run so hot that any rain that gets in there will quickly become steam. Also, the water will fall directly onto the Engine cover and that's about it.

I wouldn't recommend this if you leave where it snows and if you park outside overnight. We're facing a 4 year drought in Cali but I think El Nino is coming.

Installation can run from $2-$3K depending on options (painted or wrap roof rails/shark fin, new non-sunroof head liner, etc). I opted to keep my factory head liner.

Updated pics of the completed hood. The entire hood is painted Ti Silver but under certain lighting the vents create shadows. These pics were taken during sun rise.

(I know this is an old post, but...)

OP: do you remember how that roof cross bow attached to the body? I'm about to do a CF sunroof panel insert and I'm wondering whether that bow just attaches to the same mounting points as the sunroof cartridge, by some other means, or if I'll need someone to spot weld it. Thanks!

If I recall correctly, the center bow just hooks on to each side. But I don't think you can install it without completely removing the roof. Once you remove your sunroof assembly take a look and see if there's room to slide it in.

Hey bro, Love the build and thread! I was wondering if you could tell me how much it cost to get that hood? or get it done? I've been looking for a hood with airflow but some are just too aggressive! Love how subtle yours is!

Thanks! That was a custom hood built by my shop awhile back. I don't own the shop anymore but most shops can probably do something for you. I'm sure LTMW can do something (if guys still go there).

On my E46 M3 track car I went with a different hood vent that was super easy to install. Video here.

My brother drives the car now. I can ask him if he's interested in selling. Do you ever make it up to Bay from SoCal?

LTMW was a hot shop down in SoCal that would do a lot of custom body work on Bimmers. You don't hear about them too much on the forums now a days. Sorry I don't have a template but I would guess maybe a shop would charge $1-2K (labor & paint).

Sean, how much of the weight savings on the CF roof was from removing the sunroof cassette and how much was from the actual roof sheet metal skin itself? I've removed the entire sunroof cassette and replaced with a CF filler plate. Just curious on weight savings of full CF roof vs the actual skin of the sheet metal roof.

The old thread, but new to me. I love the roof panel and proper install. I like the vented hood style vs some regular after market versions.
