My E92 "I Got a Question" Thread

Figure I better start "I Got a Question?' type thread since I'm a new E92 owner. Be better I thought if I kept all my questions in one thread because I'm going to have more as I my daughter drives the car.
so if you see it bumped, chances are I got a newb question...

Question... So the bulb error light on the dash cluster showed two weeks ago that the car had a bulb out. Found that the drivers rear brake bulb was burnt out. I replaced it with a cheap regular non OEM bulb we had in the shop and it works but still getting the service light on.
In order for this light to go away, do I need a new OEM bulb from the dealer?
All the other lights are working perfectly.

Thank you

A service light is maintenance ie oil
Bulb error light will show light bulb. Any bulb will unless it's an led bulb.

Quite often you may get a bulb out error in the rear due to bad tailight socket.

No matter what bulb you use it will still show out even when bulb is good.

Known defect - had this problem on my 09' E92, replaced the socket with new version = problem solved

Then I swapped out the rears for LCI version & no worries whatsoever + better looking lights

Had a rear brake bulb show black on the glass on the left drivers side, I replaced it with a new oem bulb today and still shows the error in the cluster.
Checked the right side and I found one sighly blackened but didn't have an new oem bulb to replace it with but I had an after market bulb, so I put it in. Still have the error light on.

I'll get a new oem bulb to replace that cheaply bulb and hope it fixes it.

Question? Thinking maybe it's the trunk emergency bulbs now?
How do you get to those? Does the inside panel behind the trunk lid need to be removed or do they slide out from the sides?

It could be the bulb housing aka socket. Not an expensive part really so don't worry. I had this issue but for me, simply cleaning the contact points helped fix the issue. I threw some CANBUS no error LED lights in there and couldn't be happier. Don't use electric grease. For some reason it doesn't like that.

I tried spraying the bulbs ends with WD-40 but that did not help.
Sockets are next after I get into the 2 trunk brake lights.
Just don't know how yet, scared to brake the tabs that hold the inner lining on.

Left side bulb housing was it. Bought a new one and the light on the dash was gone.
