Cool, glad to hear you like it. Will you be taking it to the track at all for some on-track impressions?

In terms of adjustability, are these the Koni SAs or DAs? Do they have to be removed and fully extended in order to be adjusted?

They do not have to be removed to be adjusted -- there's a small amount of work that has to be done underhood to access the adjustment mechanism at the top of the shock but it's all done with the shock intact and in the car.

At some point yes my car is going to the track!!
There's a Motorsport Ranch on the other side of Fort Worth, I'm going to try to talk Justin (Sniper1690) into heading over there with me one weekend... shouldn't be hard.

READ THIS!!! Dinan (supposedly) to raise labor hours on Stage 3

When I was at the shop (Autoscope) with Sniper yesterday Rick, the sales guy, told me that I'm lucky I got the Stage 3 installed when I did because Dinan is going to raise the allotted number of hours for the job from 14.4 to approximately 24!! At my shop's rate that would represent an increase in install cost of over a grand.

That is apparently because most shops have had to spend much longer than 14.4 actual hours installing the Stage 3 suspension. My install in fact took way longer than 14.4 hours.

Keep in mind though that at this point, this is just rumor and speculation - however I figured it would be appropriate to pass it along.

BTW, nice job on the pics Sniper.

How can it possibly take that long?? My guy is installing KW v3 on my xi tomorrow and has quoted 4 hours!

I don't get it on the suspension. The install on my exhaust was like $200, and I got the 10% rebate. The flash install was also $200, which was 80% next-day shipping back and forth to Dinan HQ.

They're SA's... Your basic run of the mill koni yellows.

When dinan came out with the stage 3, I priced all of the parts individually and found it to be around $600 cheaper (replacing dinan springs price average of vogtland springs and h&r springs and replacing dinan sways with the price average of h&r sways and uuc sways, and chopping $100 off the camber plates for tck's DA koni setup). A lot of people want their suspension work done in the dealership, so I guess $600 isn't toooo bad for that. But for the price i'd find myself a real coilover setup.

did it really take 14.4 hours to do it? i mean at a bmw dealer that's about 1400 or more just in labor and another 2700 for the suspension!!! i am thinking of doing the same thing but dame that seems ridiculous for labor!!!!

The rear sway bar is a BEAR to install and requires dropping the rear subframe, at least down a few inches. Both the stage 2 and 3 include sway bars.

Thanks Doc. As a matter of fact, Sniper and I did that, OURSELVES, last Thursday. I highlight "ourselves" because Sniper and I are about as mechanically inclined as Condoleeza Rice is attractive.

Doesn't it make an incredible difference for such a tiny effort?

BTW - I got my KW V3's on this week. While the quote was 4 hours - it actually took them 8, and they had to double-team it at the end.

So, maybe, just maybe, it is a 10-12 hour job on this car for real.

Anyway, ended up paying for 5 hours at $80/hour. So, haha, this is the one and only really bargain deal I have experienced with this car. Everything else is in the "more-than-$1000" category.

I paid about $50K out the door for this car and have put in another $8-9K already. But, it has been completely worth. I finally have a car that is and does exactly what I want.

AttorneyScott - Where's the DIY!? haha... on a serious note, how did you learn to do it yourself? If I end up getting the Dinan suspension, I want to do the labor myself as well... I'll probably have access to the proper tools, but I need some DIY or something to follow becuase I"ve never messed with suspension installation before. Thanks!

DrEvil - why did you choose teh KW V3 instead of a StageI suspension setup?

I chose the KW V3's because Dinan doesn't offer any suspension upgrades for the Xi model(s).

DrEvil - why did you choose teh KW V3 instead of a StageI suspension setup?
There's a DIY here on how to do springs, and it's basically half a step away from doing shocks and springs. If you have the right tools it shouldn't be too hard, especially with power tools and an extra set of hands. I did mine alone with just about all hand tools and it took me all day. Time would be cut in half if I had another person and air tools.
