hi guys, i've been trying to keep up with this monster thread as well and am having a tough time finding out the answer to primarily 1 question...

my car build is 1/08, its in the dealer now and needs and update because theres an active headlight malfunction.

-Can I have them reprogram it with v32.1 so that the car drives the same as always? (no previous updates)
-will this cause me to have to run doomsday maps on my proceed v3???

i really will appreciate if a few of you could shed some light on this, esp the last question.

Greetings,

My MSD80 car had been in the shop for a couple of days in hopes of getting a wastegate retrofit as well as some CBS out of range data resets. The car went in the day before BMWNA officially published the corrective action regarding MSD80-based cars on SIB111307. As a result, the dealership contacted BMWNA and was able to get an authorization code for the retrofit. Unfortunately, their ISSS systems were down so there was no way to apply the fix to the car.

Long story short, I got a call from my SA who detailed everything was complete and the car was ready for pickup. Their ISSS came back on-line that morning and the fix was applied. He also indicated that my car was the first one at the dealership to undergo this type of programming. The tech noted that he detected a wastegate rattle after the upgrade. I did not have to sign any sort of waiver as originally suspected.

It has been wet here so I have not had much time to play with the car. The initial response as I started up the car at the dealership was that it sounded like it did when I took delivery -- i.e. a slight clanking noise coming from the motor. My car went from 28.x --> ISTA/P2.32.1 (rattle fix) --> ISTA/P2.32.1 (lag fix). As such, I never experienced the poor performance of 29.2. I will say, however, that P2.32.1 with the lag fix is more responsive than without. Climate calls for rain for a few days so hopefully I can post more when the roads dry out.

Not good that your dealer said they used ISSS, which they have to do, but then it says they used Progman on the work order.

Hopefully it's just a case of old habits die hard (i.e. used to typing PROGMAN...). However, they can't spell wastegate.

True. Typically the techs write this stuff up. Perhaps they have been familiar with progman for so long that they don't say ISTA/P. Who knows.

maybe....

.... they just loosened up your wastegates so they rattle now, giving you the impression that they made the change.

So if I'm reading this correctly, as per SIB 111307, only cars produced from May 2006 up to Sept. 2007 have the option to replace the turbo wastegate actuators?

Has anyone in here driven an pre 3/08 build with pre 29.2 and a post 3/08 build? I feel sorry for anyone who has or is thinking of buying a new 335 that has driven a pre 3/08 build car without 29.2. Completely different cars...

I have an appointment...

.... to get 2.32.1 installed.
I suspect my car may be the first done at this particular dealership, re: the lag fix. So, to help make sure that the tech knows what to do re: the wastegate valve retrofit stuff, does anyone have an explicit screen shot or know the exact wording/location of the menu options he'll need to follow? Because it certainly seems like someone confirmed that 2.32.1 isn't enough, and that there *is* an explicit wastegate retrofit (or turbo retrofit).

I assume that the tech will be as stumped as I am, since it will probably be his first time. If anyone knows the exact syntax or has a screen shot of the menu selection on the new hardware, I'd love to have it available for him. I explicitly want to avoid the scenario where he says: "yep, got it upgraded to 2.32.1!"...... but yet have no idea if the retrofit stuff was programmed as an option.

I keep forgetting to look it up, but I am positive my production date is either 10/07 or 11/07.

Thanks!

If your tech can't follow the instructions in this TIS, he should be fired.

Using ISTA/P P32.1 or a more recent version, select "Conversions" and then select "Wastegate valve conversion". Follow the on-screen prompts to reinstall the original waste gate operation.

After the "Waste gate valve conversion" has been completed, some waste gate-related noise may be detected.

...only concern I have on that is:

... cool, thanks. I saw that the other day but my head has been swimming with so much other stuff that I forgot. The only problem I have with this, is that the bulliten is for:

"N54 Distinct Clanking Noise from Turbocharger Area"

And as a side effect of this procedure to fix the clanking, lag may be introduced and can be corrected.

But for most of us (I think), the lag was introduced via an upgrade that may have been for something *else* (in my case, an oil sensor bug). The tech could potentially say: "well, since we never did the work on your car for the clanking noise, this doesn't apply to you".

Seems like they should have a bulliten that is focused on what to do if the customer complains of lag, (and hav ethe tech verify s/w versions, etc, etc --- that's fair).

It is about time Slubu updated the first posting...

Here you go again: http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/attachments/B061108Slides.pdf

Quote:
335i (E9x), 535i (E6x) with N54 produced up to 03/08
– Customer complains of a “turbo lag” after vehicle software update (since V29.2)
– In order to address specific N54 noise concerns, a revised MSD80 calibration was released in 03/08 (Progman V29.2)
– It applied to E9x and E6x N54 vehicles produced 06/06 up to 03/08
– This updated software, at certain driving conditions, may cause a minimal amount of increased “turbocharger lag” perceived by the most sensitive drivers
– E71 (X6), E82/88 (135i), and E9x/E6x vehicles produced from 03/08 are not affected by this condition
– Release of the new DME software which restores the original turbocharger response is planned for 01/09
– ISTA/P2.32.1
– For vehicles produced 09/07 up to 03/08 the new software will be available via software update on a customer complaint basis
– For vehicles produced 06/06 up to 09/07, customers may request its installation via software retrofit option (which will require iBAC authorization code)
– Customers who insist on reprogramming to the original DME status, should understand that slightly increased engine noise level is expected

I have a 2007 e92 with pre 29.2 software. My lease is over in March and I am getting a 2009 e92. The new cars have v32.1 so they will be better than the 3/08 - 12/08 cars although not quite as fun has the "original."

Have driven the 2009 model? If so have you verified that they're laggy compared to your 2007. Your comments hint that that is the case.
