Will I hate run flats?

I'm currently running 19" style 302s on 235/35 245/35 tires on my wagon. I want to drop down to 18's for a couple reasons and found a set of style 193m semi locally. They are wrapped in new Goodyear Efficient Grip performance run flats.

Part of my reasoning for wanting 18's was lighter weight. The 193 wheels weigh a couple kilos less but I'm wondering if the run flats weigh more than the 19" tires they'd be replacing? I can't find any data on tire weights.

The other want was more compliant ride. But again if the run flats are worse than 19" lower profile tires its all a wash.

My only saving grace might be that I could resell the 193m if I hate them as there seems to be some demand for them.

I can't comment on the 18 vs 19 comparison, but runflat performance was VERY obvious when I did some back to back test drives. I couldn't figure out why the RF car felt like shit, then I figured out it was the tires! Hard pass.

That said, if you can get a good deal on the wheels, just use what is on there for a year or so and get some miles out of them, then replace with non RF tires.

I wouldn't pass up on the wheels if they're a good deal. Though I wouldn't factor in too much extra because of the new RF tyres that I'd prefer not to have

They're a fair deal. I don't love their looks as much as some aftermarket wheels like Apex, but a classic wheel I think. I think I could run the 193m and still resell them If I find a set of Apex or other M359 type wheels that are quality, vs other stock wheel styles which are pretty much door stops it seems.

For non-important reasons I have a couple of e9x's (e90, e91, 2 e92's). E92's have run flats and the rest don't. One e92 has 19" and the other has 18", but both have a similar ride.

There is a marked difference between the run flats and the go flats. Regardless of rim diameter, the go flats have a much smoother ride.

Dang that's disappointing to hear that it's that noticeable. Maybe I'll pass on them.

I definitely felt the difference when I went from run flats to PS4S', my E92 felt more planted, a little softer ride and definitely less noice at highway speed. I'm still on Style 189's which are 18" wheels.

I'm not surprised there, I definitely would expect a difference between a premium tire like ps4s, but I run whatever is reasonably priced. Currently mixed set of toyos and contis.

FL roads are flat and pretty straight so ps4s are kinda overkill 90% of the time.

IMO,
1) suspension is primary factor that affects comfort and steering response
2) tire brand, model & sizing are next variables.
3) run-flats with non-run flats is last variable.

I run 2 BMW's with run-flats and 2 with non-run flats.

F25
19" staggered, non-sport suspension
Came from the factory with Primacy 3 (run-flat)
Worst and one of the expensive options.
The switch to MXM4 (also run-flat) made huge difference.

E91
17" square, non-sport suspension
SportContact SSR from the factory(run flat)
Currently MXM4 (also run flat) - very comfortable ride

E70
19" square from the factory, sport with AD
Bridgestone Dueler (run-flat) from the factory.
The steering response always fantastic for SUV, thanks to AD.
20" staggered DWS 06 in the summer and 19" X-Ice in winter (both non-run flat)
The XIce is most forgiving on pot holes, DWS is definitely an upgrade from Dueler. Next set would be PS4AS

E90
18" staggered, sport, B8's
PS4AS (non-run flat)
The ride is by far stiffer than E91 with run-flats

My 2 cents on Run Flats. 90% of all adverts are on fear or sex. Look at the commercials and adds what do you see? Run flats are just another 'fear' we're being given to get us to pony up a few extra bucks for something we don't need.

They came on my wife's Mini and she was insistent that I replaced them with the same when tires were needed. I did(not) and she's happy as can be and even noticed the softer ride. I'll take a hit if she ever does get a flat but until then....
