2007 E92: FISCON Vs OEM Bluetooth Retrofit

Hi Guys,

First post, so please be gentle

I am currently agonising over whether to get a FISCON Pro kit or replace my BMW Professional HU with a Bluetooth-enabled version.

Can anyone please advise on the following areas:

Call Quality
Quite simply, which would give the best audio on a call? Also, is it best to use the standard FISCON mic or their integrated mic that sits in the dome light? I have read the latter may suffer from wind noise, being in an echo chamber near to the roof?

Playing Audio (from iPhone)
I understand both methods can stream A2DP over Bluetooth, and both methods would also leave an Aux in option. I am not that impressed with the Aux in as I have found it much too quiet - even with the trim/offset turned up to max. When I then select tuner, it nearly blows the speakers! But I have read that Bluetooth A2DP is not great either?

Control of Tracks from Steering Wheel
The FISCON seems to provide some form of control on Bluetooth by using track numbers of the CD Changer menu. On Aux, I believe the OEM unit can select tracks when using the Y lead. I assume the control is via the USB leg and the audio is played via the jack plug (Aux) leg. Also, when using the Y lead, is the source switched to USB on the HU? I have learned the Y lead has a built-in chip; I assume this is some kind of Digital to Analogue Converter but does it also amplify the low-level signal to the Aux IP?

Track Information
I don't think the FISCON can display any metadata of music files, whereas the OEM upgrade could display track info when playing on USB/Aux (Y lead), but not Bluetooth?

Voice Control
I have read that the FISCON solution does not support the Voice Control button. To get this working on the OEM unit, would I need to fit an additional wiring harness 61120396159 up to the steering wheel?

Menus
How authentic is the FISCON menu structure to the OEM? Have they faithfully recreated the menus or just enabled them?

If you are going to consider and add on unit you might want to
look at the Dension Gateway 500s bluetooth .
Since you didn't mention a model number its difficult to tell what
you are actually getting and what it has in terms of Fiscon.
Its not widely mentioned brand here.
If you have the base stereo you might want to consider a way to upgrade that as its a POS.

There is both bluetooth phone and bluetooth
streaming music so you need to get specific about what you want.

You can't get and OEM streaming solution from a BMW unless you have idrive.
If you put in a aftermarket Head Unit there some side effects you have to account for.

fiscon will do all you want, may be expect voice control because cars without idrive have limited voice control integrated in mulf2high but it seems that your car do not have it
