I did this for a buddy before, he unplugged the module. I coded it out then had to reset the tpms on the cluster after that it was gone.

when you said coded out, it is the same as cleaning the codes and place the new one?

Coded out would be changing the coding of the car to eliminate the TPMS. Not just a simple OBD code clear.

In my case, I have a dash tree light on and off. While driving.

By the way, not to (completely) hijack this thread, but some time back, many moons ago, I'd read somewhere where you could re-code the tire pressure system to go back to the OTC or whatever it's called instead of TPMS. You know, where the computer watches for changes is how fast your tire rotates at any given speed.

Anyone recall if you can do this? If so, how?

EDIT: Oh yes, the other tire monitoring system on BMWs was called FTM.

Inactive message from the RDC

Ok, I have the same issue with the inactive problem. Going to throw this information out there of what I'm concluding to based on the info I know. I have a E90, the inactive message is showing, my mechanic told me it has something to do with the front right wheel. I had some repair done in that area but it was all cosmetic. I took the car back to discount after my mechanic told me this and discount took the little hand-held device up to each valve stem on all four tires and each sensor transmitted. The TPMS haven't been changed in a while and like I said they are all transmitting, so they're not the issue. I've heard that there are receivers in each wheel well behind the liner that receive the signal from the sensors that can also stop working. These receivers go back to the RDC module that is supposedly located behind the liner in wheel well of the back right wheel. I've scanned the RDC ECU and it is telling me a code, but it's too generic. I'm going to try and dig deeper and see if it's for sure the receiver itself. I'm leaning towards this because I was able to pull info from the RDC which means it isn't the ECU. Anyone also have thoughts?

The sensor can pass the discount tire scan and still need to be replaced. Personal experience, sensor would go inactive on longer drives.

Can someone tell me what is this module? Is it TPMS? Which wires should I unplug white or black?

As I understand you are disconnecting "RDC aerial" dont we need to disconnect "RDC control unit"?

Does any one know where it can be? I did not find it near the battery.

I just did this. Let me clarify for anyone with a 2011. Take off the rear wheel. Stare into the fender well at the brake disc. Look to your left at the edge of the fender where it meets the wheel well. Take off the bolts that hold the fender liner, just the bottom 2. Peel back the fender liner and you'll see the TPM module there. Remove the TPM module by squeezing the tabs on each side and unplugging it, and tape up the exposed connector with electrical tape. Replace fender liner. If your coding works right you now have no warning light on the dash and in IDrive and IDrive says FTM instead of TPMS. I am so happy right now.

Can someone please tell me where the TPMS Module (black usb looking one) is located on pre-lci e90 sedans?

I am also getting TPMS inactive, and it seems to go away whenever the car is wet and come back on randomly (not always when it's wet, but a often enough to notice).

thanks.

Mine is an 07 e92, and located and connected to the inside of the drivers side front fender liner, towards front of car. Good luck!

Hi I'm going through the same BS with the TPM and did a little digging. That new.tis site is very useful. I learned that on later systems the receiver aerial is now part of the control unit. And it's apparent location is the rear wheel well. From the pictures it looks like a big USB thumb drive. Good luck

Had my battery checked twice (by people who really want to sell a battery) and they said it was A ok. Have no idea where/what to do now. Am I a total fool because I won’t give up? Sooo many locations to look...sooo many directions as to what it might look like. So far, I can’t find anyone to post a solution. So I guess we are all dumbcoffs.

If you are referring to the TPS sender, mine is in the driver front fender, connected to the liner towards front. So, to check just remove 5-6 #8 socket head screws and you shall see. Mine is 2007 E92, black module. Ask me how I know - Installed SC and forgot to plug back in when re-installing fender liner!

2009 335xi RDC Location

I read the blogs and looked high and low. I finally found my RDC between the floor and the under-car cover, right below the driver's feet. If you pull a few bolts you can reach in between the cover and floor and remove it.
