Retrofit Alarm, Not Prewired

Hi. I just got my new 335d and I love it. But it does not come with an alarm. I found out that my car is not prewired for alarm.

Has anyone successfully installed the OEM alarm on a car that is not prewired? Is it impossible (or close to impossible)? How much does it cost for all the parts? Where did you get all the parts? I found that I might need additional parts if I do not have comfort access or the premium package.

If anyone have installed it, can you explain your experience with the procedure? It will be very helpful if someone could post an instruction with photos on how to retrofit alarm on cars without prewiring for those of us who bought the car of production date after 03/09.

Thank you.

There is a thread somewhere by someone who did it. It was very painful and IIRC, they said they would not do it again. I figured out what it took them to do it and realized that at my shop we would have to charge at least $1200 for the factory alarm installed, PLUS recoding.

Why am I not surprised.... I'm sensing a pattern here w/ MY2010. First there's barely an audio system in it, now the alarm pre-wiring. What's next?!

Did MY2010 actually gain anything?

I think you lost the really, really cool LATCH child restraint receptacles in the rear seat of my 2007 wagon, too. You now have to shove the latch onto the buckle through the seat back/bottom join, like a Honda.

Hey, at the time that car was being planned, most major companies were afraid of an incipient Great Depression. They all tried to save money. I remember the stink of fear in the executive offices where I worked at the time.

Now of course, we are mad that the stimulus "didn't work", rather than thanking our lucky stars that we aren't eating lard sandwiches. Or most of us aren't.

My car was not pre wired either, so I went with the remotekey+ module, which offers alarm
emulation. It will chirp upon locking and unlocking and the factory alarm LED in clown nose will blink. You can find more info on this forum with a search

That is very interesting, was it hard to install?

Yeah took out the pre-wiring but put $200 worth of exhaust tips on 328s... prior to LCI, you had to buy your own tips...

Alarm pre-wire went away around 03/09 production. Could be as early as 02/09 if you are not that lucky.

Check your production date -it is printed on the black label at the drivers door jam.

Tischer (www.getbmwparts.com)

$290 for the alarm, when I had one installed on my previous 328 it was about $300 for the install/coding.

Looks like I'm out of luck now though, the date on my 335 is 03/09 and the euro retrofit sounds like a pain

check your vin on one of the online vin decoders, alarm prewiring shows up as a feature on the report if you have it. I put my alarm in (9/2008 build E92, so it was prewired) myself and got it from Tischer, they were (maybe still are?) running a special where the alarm was about $250 and free shipping, but had to have the dealer code it in for me for another $125 or so. I installed the Sirius module at the same time so I would only have to pay one coding charge.

Edit: I feel obligated to mention that the main reason I installed the alarm was to get the windows-roll-up-with-keyfob functionality but that didn't work. Bummer. I left the chirps enabled though; they're obnoxious as hell but it is nice to have confirmation that my doors are locked. The lights blinking I haven't figured out yet under what conditions they do and don't work, but it doesn't seem to be a reliable indicator that the doors are locked.
