E90 Upgraded rear lower shock mounts...For MOTON 2-way

Hi all.

I have been putting off a lot of work on my car until Christmas break. I am replacing the OEM original suspension with a set of MOTON Club Sport coilovers and need to replace the lower shock mounts(as well as about every bushing in the suspension).

I have not found where anyone used anything but OEM type mounts for the shocks that mount in the OEM config(not on a spherical bearing like the race mounts that Turners sells http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-20...m-e82-e9x.aspx)

Has anybody used these non OEM type options?

OEM type rubber and steel mounts

PMC motorsport mounts http://www.pmcmotorsport.com/
which are not on their website but on Ebay
ebay link BMW-E90-E-90-REAR-LOWER-SHOCK-MOUNT-polyurethane-bushed-90-ShA-

Superpro Which are sold in the USA at Energy Suspension Parts

My MOTONs and A stack of other parts going on the car over break

awesome set of coilovers there. if i was spending that much, i'd have done full M3 bits including the rear control arms and used an M3 kit. It'll be awesome though, I'm sure! Hope an LSD is already in the car or at the top of your list!

As for rear shock mounts, I've only seen the OEM lowers. I have heard, however, that Ground Control doesn't list them on their site, but they make an awesome upgraded upper mount. I'm working on getting them at the moment and planned to use them in conjunction with new OEM lowers, but maybe I'll try something else out.

I'll let you know what I hear from GC, hopefully news tomorrow.

Nice shocks, but I agree that it is pretty rare to find a non-M high end shock. Most of us would upgrade to the M3 lower camber arm that get rid of the silly rubber mounts that non-M uses and replace it with a more durable rod bearing.

It looks like your rear shocks have M3 style lower mount, so no need to re-convert it back to a non-M style.

FYI, this is what you need, along with these guys

No LSD yet, maybe in the future. My car is a 335xi though...

The solid mount that is on the rears in the picture is the upper mount.

I assume no one has really used these alternate mounts... I will be the guinea pig.

Ordered.

I can ask MOTON about the lower shock clevis cost if I want to switch to M3 control arms in the future though.

I am confused... Doesn't your shock already have the M3 style clevis mount? Judging from the low res pic.

The clevis is at the top of the shock. Its has a solid mount that goes into the shock tower body/chassis mount. The spindle end goes into a OEM non M E90 style lower mount.

If you click on the image to expand it I labelled top and bottom.

Confirmed all 3 types are on order now so I will have a look at all of them.

The superpro mounts have never been sold in USA before according to sales rep. They are shipping straight from manufacture to me to save some time but will still be a couple weeks.

My opinion is that PMS is better choice, design wise and is cheaper too. They have been around making strut and shock mounts and camber plates. However, is ultimately your decision. Make sure you use appropriate upper bushing as well to match the bottom one.

Just looking at pictures the PMC is my least favorite in regards to mounting to the control arm because they threaded the aluminum plate. Unless its really high quality aluminum it probably will not hold up. I would prefer clamping with high grade bolt and nut.

Now this part is funny: I live in Indiana, I ordered OEM mounts from ECS in Ohio and the PMC mounts in Poland on the same day within a hour of each other....and guess which mounts made it to me first!

trust me, is better, the other ones will develop a slop because the plate is skinny, and on PMC you can always ad extra self locking nut on top. I have been running on Polish home made Brembo brake adapter for over 5y now with zero issues and the brackets are threaded too.

I have been looking at the PMCs and in person they look thicker than in pictures. Seem like good quality. Going to mount my rear shocks with them today.

Feuer are you speaking of the AK Motorsport brake kits?
https://www.akmotorsport.net/product...0-e91-e92-e93/
I have been eyeballing them.

when I said the plate is skinny I was referring to the superPro mounts.
for the brakes I have similar to these brackets just for 4 piston Brembo
https://www.akmotorsport.net/shop/al...rs-370mm-disc/
as you can see the brackets are threaded and this is for brakes > a lot of stress

do not know if you noticed but those brake brackets are listed as steel "Pair (left and right) of CNC Machined Billet S355 steel brake adapters."

These shock mounts are aluminum...

High quality Aluminum will work fine in most cases but, it has to be high quality and the proper alloy not melted down pop cans.

Yes I know, I was just pointing to the style, the shape of the brackets. Mine are aluminum
, aifcraft grade aluminum, and from different manufacturer.

I think the taller side of the mount needs to be up towards the shock body, at least that how all mounts are including the stock oem ones.

I thought so at first too but I measured from same point on the shock to the bottom mounting surface of the mount. If I flip it over it makes the length ~10mm taller than stock.

taper is made into stock mount

so the height of the top side of the stock mount is less than you think.

Any updates on which is the better clevis mount to replace the stock rubber saddle?

I'm looking to keep my 335i rear lower camber link, and want to replace the rubber saddle while doing a damper upgrade.

Hope to hear from the op!
