With 145k I figured it was time to replace the guibo disc. Unfortunately the local BMW dealer wanted $280 for a replacement guibo, which is ridiculous. Since Checkered flag BMW wanted 125% more than any other BMW dealer, I passed and decided to order one online. I just returned from a few days on the mountain and much to my surprise, the new BMW guibo disc has arrived!

This cost $118 from getbmwparts.com

This is what the new models have... Should be a nice upgrade, especially with the abuse my car will experience soon...

Nice. I just bought one as well as a "backup" for if/when my rubber one finally fails. Husker BMW was selling it for $103.95. But maybe I should swap it in before that happens ...

I also bought new bolts/nuts. Are you going to reuse the old ones, or did you also get new hardware?

It looks like a fairly easy install once all the periphery things are moved out of the way. Would appreciate any tips or lessons learned from your install.

I am sure you did check but I think I got my upgraded aluminum Giubo through Husker I think it was a little cheaper if I remember....
Like anything on the bottom of this car you have like a lot of shields to move to get to it...

Wow, thats a great price! I'm reusing the hardware. I know it's suggested to replace however, I have never, nor has anyone I know to include BMW techs.

The guibo is easy to remove. You'll have to drop the exhaust, remove heat shields and remove the 6 bolts. Then remove the center support bearing and remove the transmission mount. This allows the shaft to be removed and reinstalled without completely disconnecting the driveshaft from the differential. Reinstall and torque to specs. Ensure everything goes back where it was. In the past I've used a paint pen to mark the exact position of the tranny mount and CSB to avoid misalignment and resulting vibration...

I'm actually putting mine in within the hour. I'll let you know if there are any issues.

Not likely. BMW has used rubber guibos since the 80's (maybe earlier) so I'm not sure there's anything to be gained if you guibo is not worn. I'm choosing to replace mine because I intend on launching my car hard and the aluminum version should be a bit stronger and mine is OLD and should be replaced anyway!

Just bought mine from Husker. I spoke to one of the guys at Husker and he said only three bolts are necessary. That doesn't sound right... any thoughts?

Looks like there's 6 to me. 3 bolts go one way and 3 the other.

But, I haven't gone in there to replace it yet, so others on here will know more than me. And it sounds like some just reuse the bolts/nuts.

I just noticed something on that realoem link... What is item 14 used for? It's a tube of lube ... Or is that for the customer when coming in for a service appointment?

Let me know if it does anything. I just upgraded everything and we inspected mine and it looked fine after 226,000 miles.

With 226k, it's silly to not replace. They're a wear item. Mine looked fine too, but we can't see what's happening with a load placed on it. It's a little over $100, just replace and have peace of mind.

Seems like it would be a good time to change it when doing flex disc.

Not sure how center bearings hold up on these cars, can anybody comment?

Mine showed zero issues but, again, no idea what it's looking like under load etc. I just ordered a new driveshaft to ensure the center support and the rear constant velocity joint is functioning as designed.

I always get an involuntary butt pucker when approaching a dealer parts counter. Been there without the lube too many times.

Ifor I was going to replace it I'd be looking at the 335IS one which is beefier. Can't hurt to beef up.
