Blower Motor Recall Experience

So I take my ride to the stealer for the blower motor connector recall as they finally have the part in stock. It was covered and replaced under the recall. While the car was there I got a call and am informed of several developments, oh my:

A) Battery is weak. 500 to replace.
B) Starter is going out. 1300 to replace.
C) Oil filter housing gasket is leaking. 1500 dollars to replace.

Yipes! When the guy first called me he mentioned a noise coming from the transmission. That it was the throw out bearing. He put me on speakerphone as he had his tech there to explain things. I told them that I have a single mass flywheel as my car is high hp. After a brief chat with his tech, he said that he understood. I didn't list that above as the replacement price was not listed on my bill. And now the rest. The OFG was changed out last year, as was the battery. He had said that there was a code for the battery. Hmm, funny how I don't see it on my MHD when I last connected. Two other glaring things is that when they connected to see codes they should have seen my tune and known that I had some knowledge. The Service Indication on the dash that says that I am due to change the brake fluid was not mentioned. Did they really connect to the car?

A thing of note was that they have a 1000 dollar dealer rebate going on. I could have subsidised several with this one visit. Or do they jack up the repair bill in order to scare people into another car? Regardless, even if these things were needed, the prices are way out of line. A 150 dollar battery takes 30 minutes tops to change out. I paid less to have Pure 2 installed at my fave shop. The OFHG maybe 2.5 hours. 1300 for a starter? Assuming it is like 200 bucks, that would be 7 + hours to do. Sheesh, these guys must bill 20 + hours in an 8 hour day. I said my piece, and feel better now.

I still have not gotten a letter in the mail and I called BMW NA. I can't wait for my free snacks and rental car when they do mine.

$1500 to swap out a $10 piece of rubber. That is mindblowing.

BMW is TERRIBLE with recalls. Neither of my E90s have had any of them done. Always the same story with no parts available.

My father's Jeep has had 3 recalls, all were taken care of within a month of receiving the letters.

My mom and sister's Hondas both had airbag recalls that were taken care of in under 3 months.

My experience was pretty similar. I had my recalls done but I asked the if they could look and fix one thing for me. They said they didn't have time for it. Not enough profit for them I guess. So I get the recall done and the guy comes out with a list of repairs of about 1800 dollars. What I find funny is they say my VCG is leaking but 2 years ago another dealership said it was my oil pan. But they make no mention of the oil pan. They say they have time to do my VCG and change my filters out today. But didn't have time to do the small little thing I wanted to pay for.

I really do believe they just look at these high mileage BMWs and try to get you to replace parts that are known to go bad. Even if they aren't bad. I know lots of people complained BMW is always trying to get them to replace their VCG. Its under 2 hours of labor and over 1000 dollars. Easy money.

When I brought mine in for the airbag replacement in November/December, they mentioned oil pan gasket, filter housing gasket, power steering hoses, engine mount, and a couple other things... to the tune of $8700. I said no, but wouldn't you know it, one of the sales guys asked me if i wanted to test drive the 2018 they had in the showroom?

To get to that piece of rubber, you need to remove your intake manifold, refill the coolant, and re-bleed it, among other things.

Yeah it takes 3 hours. Done it before. This labor is close to $500/hour. That's insane.

Hmm from my experience with the recall if you say you smell smoke they tend to get the part right away and fix it.

8Up, maybe you'll be lucky enough to get a replacement blower motor in the process.

Is this for all bmw dealers as for service, and can you elaborate a little bit more on this (I'm in the Houston area). Thanks

If thats the case, definitively could help alot of people out.

I've done all three of these on my own. The starter motor - now that was a challenge. I've taken off the intake manifold and everything on the top of the engine before several times. But that bolt on the back side of the starter motor is the single hardest bolt in the car to get at! That bolt alone took me two hours. I ended up rigging my own E socket with a box wrench, so next time that bolt will take like 30 seconds.

$500 to replace a battery? Thats $200 for a battery and $300 labor? Insane

Starter is $174 https://www.ecstuning.com/b-bosch-pa...r/sr0492n~bos/

Yes, It's a PITA, but I will replace the starter in my other e92 myself also. But they're buliding in $1100 labor?
Insane

Oil filter housing gasket $10 part, - 2 hours labor. $1490 labor? This burns me.

Insane

I was once asked the same, and I just laughed, and told the guy that since BMW values drop like a rock, I only buy on the secondary market.

Is that actually what happened? I'll tell the stealership a white lie if I can get the recall done a little quicker. I mean, for crying out loud, that wiring can start a fire under the hood... I understand they need to order the parts, but they can't be refusing people service if the part is available and the recall is safety-related.

Actually... who am I kidding? I drove my car with a Takata air-grenade in the steering wheel for about a year before BMW NA even sent me a letter, so I guess I shouldn't expect much.
