E92 electric Rear Sunblind Install
UPDATE: This PnP install got so complex as I the sunblind doesn't work using the button. But I can get it to work using a direct 12V battery connect. Seems like coding problem or PIN3 and PIN30 are wrong per the instruction
Hi, I am in the process of installing the rear electric sunblind on my 2009 335ix. I found the pdf manual for the rear sunblind retrofit. 1. Removed the back seats they just pop out 2. I dropped down the back seats. There are 2 levers in the trunk 3. Removed the upper side pillars on both sides there is a screw hidden behind the "airbag" tab. 4. Removed the seat belt things on each side they are held by 2 clips and a screw 5. Also removed the child seat latches that's on the shelf....there are a screw hidden under the tab. I had to break one of them to figure out how to get them out.....So u need to pry out the tab which will expose the screw.. 6. Next removed the black clips on the front of the rear shelf. There is 5 to 6 cant remember 7. Removed the glove box and the cup holders. ( there is a thread on how to remove it...very straight forward) 8. Removed the side sill on the passenger side and the a pillar i think that's what they call it in order to run the wire from the rear to the junction box. 9. Remove the rear shelf and install the one with the rear sunblind. 10. Run the wire from the rear shelf along with the other wires through the passenger side all the way to the junction box which is exposed after removing the glove box. 11. Remove the junction box (there is a thread on how to do it....very straight forward) 12. One wire goes to pin3 and the other to pin30. 13. Oh i also forgot to mention you need the center console switch. I got mine new from ecstuning as i needed to have the front pdc, hill assist, heated seats and of course the sunblind. You can also try finding it on ebay or maybe someone selling it on thr form. Install is easy takes 5 to 10min tops all u need is a plastic pryer. 14. You will need to code your car by adding VO $415 to these modules NFRM and CAS that's what I was told by one of the forum member. I will confirm when I try it. Thread on how to remove rear shelf: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...04#post9640504 Thread on how to remove glove box: http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tech..._Replacing.htm Thread on how to remove junction box: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=331219 Below are some part numbers: 61319123756 - Center Console Switch Kit 51111908077 - Plastic Rivet (incase you break some or find out some are broken) 51437001491KT - Clips 72149119678 - Child Seat holder 72149119698 - Covering Cap 61138366260 - Pin Contact (part of the wiring harness that plugs into the junction box Pin 30 & Pin 3; incase you break them). I had to buy every kind of contact pins cost me $110 to get the right one. No one was able to help or know so ENJOY...... Let me know if you have any questions about the install or parts. Thank you Ramez

The individual male or female crimp-on connectors are available thru BMW - I've used them many time on projects.
You will need to know the size & type of the terminal as there are many different sizes used thru out the car... Go here to search for correct P/N: www.penskeparts.com Terminals will be in Section #61 Electrical Section And no, unfortunately, I don't know which size/type terminals you need BTW, you will also need either a new switch strip that contains the Rear Power Sunshade Button, or the Button Replacement Kit (which is of course, hella expensive for what it is). Button for power sunshade option is located in the switch strip that contains your heated seat buttons, hill descent control, etc. located in center dash below radio. I've seen them on eBay for cheaper, but it is fairly difficult to find a switch strip with all the correct combination of buttons that you need. Only reason I mention is because I didn't see it in your list of install details... Button Kit

Ok so my friend helped me program my car yesterday by adding VO $415but the rear sunblind doesnt work. Did some trouble shooting and confirmed the center console switch is working abd sending signals (used INPA to check it). I looked at my fuse diagram my car (2009 335ix coupe) and have no fuse for the rear sunblind.
My friend said per his fuse diagram their should be a fuse in slot number 63 (5amp). I looked and I have a fuse in slot number 63. So may I need a fuse in another location coz I have retrofitted my car with a rear sunblind. I followed the instruction A2 and A3 from the wiring harness goes into Pin3 & Pin30 in the junction box. I will buy a 12v battery today to make sure the motor is working. It was confirmed to me that the blind worked.... Any input help on this is greatly appreciated. I didnt think this should be a complex retrofit. I did the front/read PDC retrofit and didnt have as much issue as the rear sunblind. Thank you RB

I guess next step is to dismantle and pull out the rear sunblind....very frustrating.
I need to verify the part number of the blind. I looked at realoem and need to make sure that the blind i have is 51469147147 http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...42&hg=51&fg=40 Does anyone know if I can buy just the wiring harness of the rear sunblind, I tried ebay nothing there.

So I pulled everything out...
1. Connected 12V battery directly to the motor of the sunblind and it worked. 2. Connected 12V directly to PIN1 & PIN3 of the 3pin socket connected to the sunblind and it worked. 3. Disconnected the wiring harness from the junction box and did these 2 checks a. connected a multimeter to the 3 pin socket of the wiring harness that gets attached to the rear sunblind and no voltage readings when I press the sunblind button. I was hoping for a 12V or stg. b. connected the 12V battery to the pin-contacts that attach to PIN3 & PIN30 of the junction box and the blind didnt work. c. Continuity check using a multimeter. Wires seems OK. It seems like the 3 pin sockets that connects the wiring harness to the wire attached to the sunblind motor are bad. I feel like there is no connection like they are the wrong sockets used. PITA project insteads of PnP Anyone have any ideas?

Since the JBBF controls this wouldn't you need to code the $410 option to the VO in that module too? Not 100% sure as I haven't done any VO coding on my car but it seems to make sense.

Best use I've seen is with an added message, spell out in tape "BACK OFF" or "F*CK YOU" etc. That would be fun to pull up if you don't mind road rage. What I would do is add a sheer reflective metallic material to the back side, so that when a truck is tailgating me or a truck is behind me with a dangerous HID kit, to reflect that shit right back at them. Also, if I ever get pulled over, it would also be a great "message" back to the cop, i.e. "here you go, enjoy your 6000 Watt disco light show right back at you which is really not necessary to leave on. you got me. kudos." Although that would pretty much ensure the maximum ticket What is this? It's billed as an "ashtray curtain switch" - is that literally a switch to open and close an electric ashtray door?? Or does it by chance happen to be a sun screen controller as well? (And what are the other 5 button slugs for?)

That is the button for the power rear sun shade (e90).
The other buttons are for: Driver's Seat Heater - PDC - Hill Decent Control - Power Rear Sunshade - Passenger Seat Heater... ..probably missed one somewhere

Yes coded the VO $415
But still couldnt make it work. I even replaced the JBBF with another one from a friend of mine who doesnt have the Sunblind option and also didnt work. SO it seems that the JBBF should be one that had the sunblind option. I cant think of anything else that could be wrong. The blind works when connected directly to a 12V battery I used INPA and can see that the center console switch is sending signal when pressing it

I searched and cant find any information about this retrofit. Seems like no one did the electric sunblind retrofit. Most retrofit are the manual rear sunblind

I have the original Monroney for my 2009 e90 w/ Factory manual side and power rear shades and the cost was only $575 from the factory. Damn..$415 just for coding!
I have tint all around too so I don't even really need them. |
