Coilover options on a budget
Hi,
I have browsed the forum for reviews on coilovers and have seen plenty reviews for the medium/ high end coilovers. But not much information at all on the lower end/ budget coilovers of which there are plenty of out there on various sites. I was hoping someone would have tried some of the lower end coilovers out and could give me advice as to ride and build quality. |

I have no experience of budget coilovers, but my gut tells me that on a budget you'd be better off with just straight replacement of springs and dampers (e.g. Eibachs and Koni yellows).

I know FK makes cheap coilovers for the E9X for around $500 or so. I haven't had experience with their E9X variants, but I had a set on my E46. For the price they were pretty decent and did the job of stiffening and lowering the car quite well. Good luck getting a decent ride out of budget coilovers though.

You are better off getting a set of Bilstein Prokit or if that is too expensive, just get stock replacement and call it a day. No one should be riding on Chinese junk with their BMW.

This. Just get some springs and struts. All the cheap stuff is all rebranded Chinese crap. Most people set and forget coilovers for height. Cheap and a good suspension are not possible. For a drop and better feel spring and struts are your answer.

Racelands, or buy used BC/KW's.
If you're looking to just lower it you can just do springs (like H&R) and once you save some more cash you can add struts. |

Thanks for all the assistance here on this one guys.
I ended up with Eibach Sportlines in the end. Its almost the right drop for me; ideally would've wanted it a slight bit lower, but I would have likely needed to get archwork etc done. So worked out well all in all |
