Bought some DEPO blacklines, should be here in a week. Was somewhat of an impulse buy at the time though I've been going back and forth about the idea since I bought the car.
Might also buy another set of stock taillights to mess with, I'd like to make them a deeper red without smoking them. I have a plan in my head on how to accomplish that as well Edit: I wanted to see if I could make my own blackline inner tails. I had a spare one that was pretty beat up so I did a rough proto of that. I was hoping itd darken the white edge, alas I'd need to tint that too. Oh well.

Update on the tie rods - they didn't give me photos, but were able to save me $200 by using a bit of BMW parts number trickery - you're able to order both the inners and outers under one part number and save about $100 per side.
The part numbers are: 32106765235 (right) and 32106765236 (left) Hope this helps anyone else who needs both inner and outer tie rods! |

Just realized the guy that owned the 535xi I pulled this filter housing from must have dealt with non stop vanos problems due to likely the negligence of a shitty mechanic/lube tech. The oil filter cap did not have the basket inside of it which for anyone that doesn't know, leaves open a drain directly to the oil pan leading to a loss of oil pressure.
Gonna need to figure out something better than naphtha to clean these surfaces up |

Try brake cleaner. I ran out of my usual stuff and used spray brake cleaner last month, worked great.

Snapped the front passenger spring....ended up replacing both springs, shocks, dust boots, bump stops and dunno the name of the things where the spring sits up in the body...everything OEM Sachs ~$600 total.
The ride before was terrible, even over minor road imperfections it was crashing and bottoming out on bigger stuff. I thought that the suspension was in good shape as I checked everything in a local suspension shop and they said it's all good. So I figured that the m-sport suspension is simply trash, but after removal I found out that these were all factory parts from when the car was made 2007, never replaced. Got a brand new car! I highly recommend replacing all of the above as now the ride is sublime. Steering is more direct now, changes direction without delay, stays flatter in high speed cornering, no more break diving, no bottoming-out and it rides very quietly. Still stiff but way more comfortable. Only downside is now she sits 1/2'' higher in the front probably needs some time to settle. Will replace the rears as well...but now I'm thinking about 18s again. |

I tried to fix my sister's xenon headlight on her 328i xdrive e92. Driver's side works fine but passenger's side is having problems with the low/high beam. Everything else on the passenger's side headlight works such as the blinker and angel eyes but no light from the headlight. I removed it and found that the ballast was soaking wet as well as the adaptive headlight control unit. I switched the ballast and the adaptive control unit to the bad headlight but still no light from the headlight. She took it somewhere and they already replaced the bulb with a brand new one so I didn't bother switching that. I'm pretty stumped on what my next course of action should be. I don't want to have her buy a new ballast if it isn't going to fix anything.

CCV and inner DISA replacement. Getting the intake manifold out was a bit of a mission. Started OK but removing the CCV pipes to free the manifold was interesting. Once you've done this it's easier the second time! My word a a lot of things connect to this manifold.
Inner DISA was spinning freely, well broken. None of the CCV pipes or the oil sump drain seemed clogged but I ran a length of coax cable through the metal drain pipe to clear it anyway. I hope the CCV had failed internally, otherwise the explanation for the high oil consumption starts to look like piston rings. BMW made the two DISA valve connectors the same, they just never do that sort of thing. Had to plug in the laptop and use INPA to cycle each valve to work out which wire was which. Now the fun bit. Third pic is the end of the CCV pipe that goes into the metal hard line to the sump. Just could not get it to click into place. Broke the plastic insert trying, recovered one from the old hose and broke that too. Car now stuck until I get a new part and figure out how to fit it. Pissed. Thanks heavens I moved the Z4 behind it in the driveway. Does anyone know how this bloody thing attaches and clicks into place?

Is yours an early revision disa? That oil hose most people when they inevitably break it they just use a hose with two clamps to replace it.
I've always thought it's probably possible to remove the inner disa without taking out the manifold but I have no reason to try it lol |

Just wish I could figure out how this connector works. Tried everything I could think of to make it click into place. Been working on BMWs for 25 years and not come across one like it.

My coral red E92 has leather here, I thought all the 3 series did until I saw a buddies black E90. Is it only E92 that got the leather pull handle? |

Probably only e92. This is the same thing with all e92s getting xenon adaptive headlights while they were an option on the e90. There's probably more favoritism towards standard options on the coupe vs the sedan I don't know about.
