BMW professional radio replacement compatibility help - broken head unit

I've searched and searched and can't come to a real answer. Maybe I'm not searching for the correct terms. I have a 2007 e92 and ran a VIN check. I have the S677 HiFi system professional DSP. It has Bluetooth telephone as well. My head unit went out. I bought one off of eBay and ran the VIN on the car and the donor car had the same options. Everything works great except for the LCD screen going out and volume knob is inop. I can only control with my steering wheel controls. The Bluetooth works with my phone and it has the logic 7 EQ controls etc.

My question is compatibility for an different used head unit. I know there are different options for different model years. The goal is to replace and plug n play to have Bluetooth and EQ controls the same way without coding or any mods. Will a BMW professional head unit from a newer car that says S676 work? It seems like the options depend on the year. I can't figure out if hifi means logic 7 or not depending on the year. So the example is one from a 2012 328i with S676. It says satellite and Bluetooth on it but ok curious on if anyone knows if this will work and give me logic 7 controls etc.

I'm in the US by the way. It seems to me like if I have the logic 7 amp and everything in the car that this should work. But I don't know if the controls will be in the head unit. Can anyone confirm? I feel like it just going in circles and don't want to just shell out money on a bunch of head units that may or may not work. Thanks guys and gals.

Hi fi is always 676 even now. (all years)
Logic 7 is 677 and 688 ( after 09 at least in the e90)

the head units are programmable for the other types but require
the more expensive ICOM cable in cars made after 3/07

Thank you. I ended up getting one from a car that has S677 logic 7, Bluetooth. Satellite etc. put it in today and it works great! All functions work including Bluetooth phone and steering wheel controls. It has the logic 7 EQ as well all of the functions are there.

Different question. If the car it came from had the 6fl option and mine doesn't, can I retrofit and not have to code it? Or would I still require coding? I'm unclear on if it's coding needed on the radio itself or modules in the car etc. It seems like a very simple diy but hoping to same an hour of coding at the dealer

The dealer is the last place I would go for coding.
Either DIY or find a coder in your area.
If the Head Unit was progrmmed for USB it might work
without coding.

I appreciate the info!!! I'll read up and report back so others in my situation may benefit. It may be literally cheaper to buy a used head unit that it already coded than to go pay someone to code. I guess it all depends on what a local coder wants to do it.

Most of us do our own coding.
If you are in a major city it's likely you can find a coder
or there are some remote coding services .
See the coding subforum.
