ISTAP where to put SDP and BLP files?

Hi,
This questions is just for my E series coding.

Where do I put the folders DATA and DATA-SWI for ISTAP programming?

I have tried finding this info since days but couldn't. There are many threads and they are all different regarding RHEINGOLD folder, symbolic links, some say put them here c:\ProgramData\BMW\ISPI\data\TRIC\ others say into ISTAD folder, some say into a dedicated folder called PSDZ. I am confused and want to understand how that works.

The PDF ISTA guide says into the ISTAD folder under PSDZ. But how does ISTAP know where to find those files? Do I need ISTAD installed at all for ISTAP? I don't want to use symbolic links. Can I verify before programming with ISTAP that all files are where they supposed to be?

Thanks!

I sure someone knows but alot of us new coders are using mobile so the pc programs are foreign.. So you have to take that in context..

I thought that updating the car modules software only works through ISTA and WINKFP?

I did not know you can update the software with a mobile?

Protool is a mobile version of peices of ISTA, INPA, NCSExpert Tool32 and WinKFP. Its a very powerful app that is more user friendly than the laptop.. Wireless and dont have to lug around laptop, this is why the most new users will go this way .. Especially if they dont have a laptop, the cost of the app is the cost of a laptop.

Very interesting. Thanks for pointing this tool out.

But this is only for diagnostic and coding.

It does not support ECU software updates. And this is why I am after ISTAP setup.

Protool cannot flash modules like winkfp and ista/p can. I recommend using winkfp to flash modules though, I find ista/p difficult to configure and make work properly for flashing purposes. Winkfp all that's needed is sp datens which can be found easily online

Just advise if not already known,

Do not attempt to flash with ISTA-P unless you have icom and voltage regulator.

When flashing with Winkfp special attention is need for certain module, ex: CAS and MOST bus.

What the last guy said.
Its much more common to use ncsexpert winkfp and tool32 and safer to.

If you decide you want to use this anyway the guy in the following link has
some good video's on it.

Thanks for providing the links!

I actually don't want to use symbolic links as I have enough space on the SSD but the video shows the correct locations for the files.

Thanks for pointing this out. Yes, I have an ICOM and a Voltage Stabilizer for flashing.

I still don't feel that making copy of my coding, finding ZUSB (which does not work on my E83 as there are no functional Jobs in INPA), then selecting the right ZUSB, then selecting the right ECU file, flashing and then coding back the settings is easier and safer than using ISTAP and making a tick box next to the ECU and clicking on Apply Measures. Which covers all of above steps.
Sorry, this is not to start a discussion but ISTAP does everything automatically.

Thanks again!

SDP and BLP are use with ISTA+ (ista-d) for programming/troubleshooting F series

You do not need these file to flash E series.
One ista P is installed correctly you should have the matching DATEN folder for your chassis within the ista p installation.

@mizta insane: Thanks. That explains everything!
I always assumed that I need to update with SDP files once ISTAP is installed.

One more. If I use the single installer for ISTA+ for diagnostic. It comes up with BLP required. Are those files also required to diagnose and use Vehicle Operations?

np, yes they are required for ista+, they are stored in PSdZ\data\psdzdata\
