Mobil 1 0-40 used to be slightly thicker than Castrol Edge Euro 0-40. It is now thinner. It makes sense the new formula would decrease oil temps. Problem is it does not appear to hold up well to abuse. I'd stick with LL-01 approved oils if you do anything more than use your car for commuting/fuel economy. I would drop your oil change intervals down to 4-5k max.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I have only I used Amsoil 5w40. I was thinking of using M1, but not now.

as long as you stick to 5w40 you'll be fine. 3000 mile oil changes are a bit overkill, but better sooner rather then later I guess?

I haven't seen an amsoil uoa but I'm planning on doing one for Castrol Edge 0w-30 after 4-5k.
