Help with identification
I recently purchased a pretty roached 2008 335xi to specifically learn how to fix things. It’s my sanity break with almost no work coming in with COVID. My skill level is pretty low but I learn quickly and I am really enjoying the machine. I have hit most of the easy fixes. Thanks to this forum and YouTube for so much help. I am trying to trace down a boost pressure issue and I hope someone can help identify what I am looking at. I believe it is in place of the stock charcoal filter but no amount of searching has help me find this modification. There is a stylized “a” followed by “active” on top of the canister. Bit rusty being a MN car. Any help would be great. Lots of rusty hose clamps to get through.

That would be a blow off valve(it's aftermarket, our cars come stock with diverter valves) that is connected to your charge pipe. The blow off valve is made by Active Autowerke

So I am feeling like I have so much to learn. So technically this is not street legal. Not really too concerned but I’m guessing the software has been tuned as well. Any real downsides to having this system on my 335 say besides gas mileage? I have been on their site but it only give a real brief overview of the product. Just looking to get an opinion of it. Thanks again for your timely response.

It looks like the vacuum nipple on that blow off valve is disconnected, unless I'm looking at something else. There should be a vacuum line running from the blow off valve to the intake manifold, and if this is missing it would explain your boost leak.

You'd have to check obviously, but I'd highly doubt that you have anything to worry about emissions wise if your in MN where you said the car came from.
