Since my car is away for the winter i cant try this soon but i have never noticed this issue before. What i am thinking is : The pump is driven off the belt that is also connected to the crank. Sounds like close to the limit of the steering the pump is bogging the engine due to an increased and unexpected load for whatever reason. This could just be the design of the system and the software is just there to alleviate the symptoms.. thats why we might never find a fix until a new steering pump design maybe..
Engine surges due to extra load then tries to compensate .. |

Looks like no one has found a remedy yet. Been happening to me for about a year now, starting to concern me. Also just as someone else mentioned above, when i cruise around 60mph it feels like the car hiccups when there is no gas applied.
Any advice? |

Justin from Twisted Tuning, in association with MHD Flasher stated that he wants to increase idle on N55 engine to ~900rpm, which he's currently performing long term testing (He mentioned it somewhere in that thread). Factory default is little above 600rpm. I'm just waiting for the official release and HOPE the MHD update will somewhat compensate this surging issue.

I actually believe that may fix it. It seems like steering inputs put enough of a load on the engine that the idle drops down to 500 rpm and the dme responds by bumping the idle up, which results in the surging effect.

Just a heads up on MHD v1.51 beta, which still going on, with the RPM idle adjustment, it does not fix or improve the issue. It only allows user to adjust RPM idle in Park or Neutral position (AT)
I clean my VANOS solenoid last summer due to minor RPM fluctuation randomly, it helped with just the random RPM fluctuation but did not affect steering pump causing the surge.... Let us keep praying Twisted Tuning would help us on this along with more tweaks. He's only concerned with OTS map adjustment currently due to timing correction for some MHD users.

I just wanted to state that I have experienced this problem as well. Second owner of a completely stock 11 335 m sport. Car only has 48k and the surging is very pronounced while steering at idle. Any solutions yet?

Let me be clear that i do not see this issue with my car but it sounds like the steering pump is creating a load on the crank that is "unexpected" or "un measured". Has anyone replaced the steering pump for this issue ? Or has anyone replaced the steering fluid or flushed the fluid and does that change anything ?
