Exclamation Bov On N55 !

I already know that there is a DV on the turbo itself. But I bought this charge pipe without knowing. So the question is if I install this without getting the bov flange welded shut and I attach the bov. Will it hurt/harm the engine or will it pretty much make a little cool sound and do nothing beneficial mechanically?

Are you sure the pipe fits your car? I'd imagine this would affect the performance. Also I'm not sure what vacuum line you'd connect.

Honestly I test fitted it and it fits perfectly with the clamps and all. Took it down the street for a drive a bov works fine no problem. Please educate me on the vacuum line, also if this could cause any major problems for me should I get the bov welded shut or keep it. To me its like a secondary pressure release since the turbo already have a DV.

I don't know that much about BOVs but I'd guess if you don't have a vacuum line connected then the BOV will never open and "blow off" when the throttle closes. It's essentially acting like a normal charge pipe. I guess you might actually be fine if you don't have a vacuum line going to the BOV because you still have the DV.

Right it only opens up when i'm actually in the gas, when I let off it closes. But it does give off quite the sound once fully opened

That doesn't sound right. A blow off valve should be closed when accelerating. Once you get off the gas and the throttle closes the BOV will open to release the built up pressure in the charge pipe.

I wonder what it is that I am hearing. I would say compressor surge but I don't know. I do know I only hear it when im over the desired pressure for it to open/Increasing in speed.

Maybe while the throttle is open the piston must be compressed by that pressure. So I must be just blowing air out of the bov while accelerating and once the throttle is closed the bov is shut?

Could be a boost leak, but unlikely you'd hear it without throwing a code. Our turbos are also fairly audible.

The vacuum line is what should be actuating the BOV. Without any vacuum attached, the valve is allowed to freely move by the boost going through the CP. It sounds to me that when you're on throttle, the boost pressure in the charge pipe is escaping through the valve, which is the opposite of what you want to happen. Blow off valves should only vent boost pressure when off throttle as to avoid compressor surge. All it's doing now is creating a boost leak and probably making your car run poorly.

Havent had any performance issues as of yet. But Im ordering a different CP now. If anything as a temporary fix I can put in a heavier psi spring to keep it held down.

I bet you have and you haven't noticed. I'm sure if you logged at all, you'd see it wasn't right. You're dumping air out of the system after the MAF sensor.
