Rematch: Cobb FBO 335i vs JB4 FBO 335i (Video Inside)

This is a follow up from our first run. Info from our first run can be found here:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=724453

To keep things short, I lost the first run because I shifted too slow and my protune wasn't finished. My car is 6MT and "Stucks" car is 6AT. Now that my protune is completed, we set out for a rematch.

Car Mods & Details for Run #2:

Laid Black 335i: 2007 BMW 335i (6MT): Cobb Protune (18 psi), FBO, No Meth, Stock OEM Exhaust, running a 60/40 mix of 93/E85.

VS.

Stucks (Camera Car): 2008 BMW 335i (6AT): JB4 (Map 5 - 16.5psi), FBO, No Meth, Stock OEM Exhaust, running a 75/25 mix of 93/E85.

Summary: We did a 40 roll again letting off around 135. I was able to pull a car length at the start and by the time we let off, I was half a car ahead.

Just for kicks.... here's a video of my 60-130 time. I estimate it is low to mid 9's.

These runs took place in Africa! Very close and good runs! laid black 335i took me for a ride in his car after the run, and his car is really fast! Jake @ protuningfreaks did a great job on the protune cause that thing rips! We also wanted to do a 60 roll, but other circumstances prevented that :/

Nice runs. Its impressive considering Dean's car is a manual and the jb4 car is an auto. I want to see some logs if you get a chance. We probably have a little more to squeeze out of it.

6AT > 6MT from a roll

Another point to mention is the Protune runs 18 psi down low; at 5000 RPM (in the powerband, the car runs 17.5 psi tapering to 14), the JB4 uses a 3 psi taper from peak, so if it is actually running 16.5 psi, it's tapering to 13.5 or so, so the boost disparity isn't much.

Either way, nice run.

Just curious, did both cars have passengers?

Looks like you sorted out the difference from your first thread. What was the change?

All-in-all, fun to watch ... its what is expected, both cars being FBO for WOT, there really shouldn't be much of a difference between tunes.

Keep it safe and the right side up.

Not sure, we are going to set up a dyno day soon.

Will do. I was going to today but unfortunately the massive thunderstorm & tornado warning messed those plans up.

Thanks cupertino, the first run I was running just a base map and didn't shift that fast. The protune wasn't complete. Also, I shifted "super fast" this time to give me a chance to keep up with the 6AT. I didn't have a passenger but Stucks had his GF recording but she only weighs like 95lbs.

It's not a single turbo or anything, but I'm definitely enjoying the car now that the custom tune is 98% done.

in all honestly 100 lbs makes a little bit of a difference. I would like to see both no passenger. the pro tune would still win tho

Yes, the e92 coupes exhaust is not really a major restriction until you get to 450whp. youll get maybe 8-9whp max off an exhaust.

yeaaah no, bolt ons have never been measured in "only needed if im pushing xxx hp" exhaust used to be the first bolt on. again not trying to get off topic or start crap . but an exhaust is a bolt on available to n54 cars. my thought was when you install all available bolt on's your car is Fbo.

we can agree to disagree, maybe i'm mistaken, please proceed with thread..

great vid good runs.

lol... Lance FINALLY loses. Nice run.

And yeh, I consider an exhaust a bolt-on also that completes the FBO acronym.

not impressed.... to pay for a protune only to beat the same car by half a car-length that is running a lower mix of e85? lol but just my opinion... i'm sure your car is still alot more fun though!

PTF charges like 299 for it 199 for an etune. I really think that's a huge bargain considering how much time they spend to perfect and squeeze the most out of your car. Look at people paying 1500-2000 for an exhaust or 6-900 for dowpipes or intakes and its just bolt up and go. On top of it all these guys won't leave you hanging ever at least in my case a definite both thumbs up and highly recommended. Without the pro tune this car loses but now it wins the race which is worth it to me

I'm 190lbs. Stucks and his GF are maybe 270lbs combined. My 19" wheels are also heavier than his 18" LTW5 Wheels.

It's nothing that I'm worried about. I've never noticed it until watching this video. The car has a very smooth powerband. Not many people take videos of their speedometer going full throttle to ever notice something like this.

If you want to spend $1200 + on an exhaust for an extra 5-10whp, then more power to you.

It sure is a lot of fun and has a lot of torque. But as themyst said, 6AT > 6MT from a roll. If it was a 6AT vs 6AT race, who knows how much bigger the gap would be.

I agree. I have the benefit of living 10 minutes away from Jake@PTF so it would be ludicrous not to get protuned.

It's a custom map for 40% E85.

OP, are you still on stock clutch? I'm assuming that hiccup at 5200rpm is your clutch slipping before 5200, and then catching.

Time to upgrade man
