Gearbox software update

Hi all,

After some research, I have decided to take it upon myself to update the TCU software. For a while now (probably ever since I purchased the car back in Feb 2016) I have been experiencing a 2 to 1 hard downshift just before coming to a stop. This only happens in D and not in DS.

I have had the oil level/condition checked out by a garage who said it was okay and they reset the adaptations. Which didn't really do anything. There are no other leaks, no other noises etc. and the rest of the time, the gearbox is fines. I have also been told by the previous owner that the gearbox had a service prior to me purchasing, so at around 80k miles. It is now on 103k. So I don't think I want to be changing the oil just yet.

I have read through some forum pages on other sites and it seems that others are having the same issue albeit in various models but all with auto transmission. From what I have read, it is pretty straight forward to update the software using Winkfp/INPA. Just downloaded this along with the sp daten files. I will be connecting up to the car later on today and fingers crossed, get the software updated!

Yes, is straight forward if you know what you do.

Yep, seemed straight forward - until I realised I have the wrong cable! Just ordered a proper K+D Can one now. I was trying to use the cable I used to use with the Carly app. That didn't work at all.

Have you tried using INPA to reset the gearbox adaptations?
It's very easy.

I personally haven't as I am waiting for a new cable to come through first before I can start using it, but I have had them reset in the past via a garage and also a friend with the software. Didn't really make any difference.

Do you not have to do a very specific drive after resetting them?

First I have heard of this? So what would I need to do after adaptations have been reset?

Best option: update gearbox and reset adaptation.

That’s what I thought too which scared me off a bit!

My fox well nt510 tool has a section for oil change I need to look into but think it’s resets the adaptations, I’ve seen a lot of people write about resetting and not doing the above so.....

From what I have read, all who have reset adaptation DON'T do the specific re-learning...not saying what is right or wrong but just find it interesting the variety of answers you get from people. Some people swear it makes a HUGE difference, others like me say it doesn't. But none have done the re-learning.....

After I flashed xhp, it said on the screen to take it VERY easy for 50 miles with lots of coasting for it to re-learn, so I just drove like miss daisy

From my experience, resetting the auto gearbox on an E46 made a big noticeable difference. The E9x not so much, not sure if it did anything at all.

Im interested in updating my gearbox too where did you get the newest daten files please?

I haven't actually done this yet due to simply not having the time! But the daten files were found via a torrent site. But not the latest version. Think I have got V48 or something.

Once I come round to doing this and do it successfully I will post up the daten files I used. I'll have another search at the time to see if I can find later ones.
