Rear brake pads

I've had my 335i for 47 months and have driven it 29,000 miles.. Took it into the dealer today to have things done under warranty before it expires. The car said that I need to have my rear brake pads serviced within 800 miles

The dealer called me today and said that the pads still had 10mm on them. (He said new ones are about 12 mm). I don't drive hard at all but I find it hard to imagine that I would still have that much left. He said he still needed the car for a couple of hours to "reset the sensor". Is there any incentive for the dealer to not be honest about this? Does this sound reasonable? The guy seems honest but since I don't know much about these things, I thought I should ask around

The rear pads on 335i does wear out faster than the fronts, but 29k miles seems really early.
